blue veins

During a toilet break , somewhere in the nite, I notice all my veins in arms and legs are blue ? what is this anyone know? I have never had circulation problems as far as I know and this is not normally present when I wake,but I would normally take off my head gear and have a nice little relax before I get to my feet too anyway. I have been on CPAP for 4 months with good results I suppose . on no.8 air flow. My tiredness has not stopped and I am still confused .

Veins generally show through the skin as blue. Are you referring to varicose veins? Personally, I'd talk to your PCP about it if it concerns you. It can be an indicator of inadequate venous circulation or some other medical problem (such as hypertension or heart failure).

I think my blue veins has something to do with , too much oxygen or not enough ? someone has got to know , my CPAP team is now closed for the weekend . It only appears when I come strait off my CPAP and go into a lighted room , eg toilet , not in the am after a rest period before rising and going about my my usual morning duties, am in great health and have regular check-ups, because of migraines and depression , still present after 4 months , but I live in hope they will one day go .

I don't think your veins get particularly bluer when your O2 is low. Supposedly, the blueish color is due to the vein itself, not the blood therein. Your skin in general may get somewhat bluer with low O2 because the thin capillaries are thinner and more transparent.

Your veins do become more or less visible under certain conditions, especially when you're more hydrated. They have a hard time when they try to draw blood from me. The lab tech suggested I drink a lot of water before going to get a blood draw and it does make my veins stand out a lot more.

Veins are larger than arteries. They are also closer to the surface because they are involved in the cooling off of your body and carry approx 2/3 of your blood volume at any given time. While it is true that the blood in your veins is de-oxygenated, it is never blue but rather a deep maroon whereas the arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart and it is a brighter red. The blue colour doesn't come from the artery itself but rather has to do with the way blue and red light is absorbed into the skin. If we could see the arteries through the skin they would also appear blue though they are not just as the veins aren't.
