REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Could someone please tell me if this model of machine will work with Sleepyhead? I am having difficulty getting it to work. perhaps this machine is not supported? thank you
Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
SleepyHead will indeed work with the PR System One machines.
If you have this machine...https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... cflex.html
the PR System One Remstar Plus cpap with cflex the problem is the machine. The only data it collects is hours of use. It isn't a software issue. Your machine simply doesn't have anything to report except how many hours you use it.

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
In addition to hours of use, the plus also tracks pressure settings, humidifier settings. (and flex the option is available, haven't seen it yet though) Very basic information with no daily graphs.. SleepyHead should show an unhappy rotating brick cube for this machine.. (unless I broke something)
Coupled with data from an oximeter I guess it's better than nothing. I personally don't find oximetery all that useful without flow data to compare it too.
I recommend talking to your DME about an upgrade to at least a "Pro" model with data capabilities.
The manufacturers who sell these crippled machines have a lot to answer for!

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Thank you both, Pugsy and Jedimark for your replies. When i purchased the machine at Shoppers Home Healthcare in Ontario, Canada, I told the person ( said he was a respirologist) that I wanted to be able to record and read data. He said I wouldn't be able to read it myself but I could take it to him and he would read it. Well now that is interesting in light of what you have told me. I am seeing him tomorrow as i called to ask what happened to the other two sizes of nasal pillows in my Swift FX and the cushion wraps which the packaging says is enclosed as well as the face the mask which came with the machine. i will speak to him about upgrading but he told me when i purchased it on January 17th 2012 that it was not returnable. I don't think the "Pro" is even available through Shoppers Home Healthcare as he told me they only carried three types of units.
If you have any suggestions as to what I could say or do, tomorrow, i would be happy to hear them.

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Is your machine even a System One? All I can say is that their online catalogue's selection sucks. Had you posted this earlier I could have paid some of their locations a visit to look at their selection, although I don't intent to switch to using them as my DME. So, how horrible is their markup in this arena? I'm not too impressed at what I'm seeing as some of their featured products (I clicked on their "New in home health care" link): Himalayan salt crystal lamps and magnetic jewelry?

Quite frankly, in this instance, they have MORE than simply lied to you.. Your provider is treating you like dirt..abbey101 wrote:Thank you both, Pugsy and Jedimark for your replies. If they do not take steps to resolve this, If I was in your shoes, I'd personally be consulting legal council and/or whatever fair trading organization you have over there.

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Thanks for the encouragement Jedimark. i did look up the Consumer Protection Act and I think I have grounds to request that they take it back. I plan to pursue it tomorrow.
In terms of your question Tetragon, the Swift FX mask for women was $ 250. I saw it on-line for half the price. That was U.S. so it would be more in Canada but still....huge profit. The machine is 75% covered by the Assistive Devices Program in Ontario. It does say System One right on the machine. As far as your question about how much it cost, I'm glad you asked that because i just checked the bill and it says "Customer Deposit $ 544". No tax, no description, that's it (How would i even claim this on my Income tax?) There was never any deposit. I just paid for the machine when i purchased it. I also bought a a container of wipes for cleaning @14.95 and filters for $ 20. Add that all up and that leaves $ 259 for the machine. That is supposed to represent 25% of the cost which would make the machine $ 1036.
The problem in my case is that I didn't realise that I didn't have enough information when I approached the supplier. It was all new to me so I read about Sleep Apnea, read about different types of masks and so on. The fact that this machine does have a data card is rather misleading to a newbie. Data is data for the first week until you master the basics. Then once your understanding increases and you get into the details you realise the difference but by then the mask and machine is purchased.
Now i have five things to talk to him about tomorrow. The XS and Medium nasal pillows missing from the package(he probably resells them), ditto for the strap covers, the mask that came with the machine (i did see it in his office and did specifically ask that he put it in even tho i was planning to use a Swift FX), misinforming me about the data on the machine (told him I wanted one that recorded AHI amongst other data) and a bill that says nothing. Consumer Protection Bureau says a letter must be submitted to the company in writing within ten days so I still have time. I will let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Please see previous reply but i have one more comment to add. jedimark, could you possibly ake a look at this link? http://respironicssleeptherapysystems.respironics.com/
Here they describe system One. Then in the right column they have a list of features, I think they are more than just System One features but the System One brochure shown there says "System One addresses advanced sleep assessment parameters, including AHI, leak, flow limitation and RERAs to provide optimum therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)" I don't know what specific data i should be looking for beyond AHI and leaks. What additional things should i be looking for? I need to sound like i know what I am talking about tomorrow. Thanks for your help

Take a look at this page...scroll down just a bit till you see the Encore patient management section.
This tells you the data that the full data machines will record.
Column..... Advanced Event detection and reporting

System One just describes the current platform of Philips Respironics machines..
There are various models available... The main ones being Plus, Pro, IQ, Auto, various advanced Bipap and ASV models (and even some of these are bricks).
The two models to avoid: Plus and the IQ.
Plus as you've already discovered is featureless brick, and the IQ, is a crippled Auto machine which degrades itself inself into a "Pro" after 30 days of combined Auto usage. (IQ is not necessarily useless, as it still records data afterwards, but it's just damn evil they made it that way)
You will want something that at least tracks Leaks, full AHI event detection, and Flow Waveform. A basic "Pro" model accomplishes this.
The Auto stuff is a nice-to-have, but not a necessity - it is worth paying extra for if you can afford it..

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Thanks Jedimark. i didn't realise System One had so many models so that helps me understand what i was reading in their brochure.
Pugsy, this chart is EXACTLY what I need to show the provider today. Thanks so much for the link!!!
Will let you know what happens.

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Good luck.
Lots of people see the SD card and think "data"...which is partially true. It does gather the data that the machine gathers and hours of use is indeed data. Problem being not all the machines gather the other data that you need or want. Poorly trained supplier's staff may not "really" know what each model will or won't gather. So it could be an honest error but you know what? I don't buy into that very much. It is their job to know their machines. It isn't that hard to have a chart like this one available.

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
HI Pugsy and jedimark
Well I met with the supplier today. He gave me the soft wraps and extra nasal pillows which had been removed from the bag. Said he didn't know why the soft wraps weren't there and that he had been instructed by Phillips Respironics to only give one set of nasal pillows to the customer. He said that if i used ones that were too big it could permanently enlarge my nostrils. However when i had initially put the mask on the pillows were just presented as if they were one size fits all. He also fit it extremely tight. The first two nights I had marks on my cheeks which lasted till afternoon. After watching a youtube video i saw that they did not need to be tight to be effective. Today I put the xs on and it seemed to be a perfect seal. I have been wearing the S and they seem to fit as well. Maybe I am in between the two sizes and will check the fit carefully.
In terms of the mask that was missing from the System One Plus machine i had purchased, he gave me one in fresh packaging. He also rewrote the bill giving me one for official income tax purposes. He said he would order the Pro and charge me an extra 50 and that it would normally be an extra $90. I am willing to pay for the Auto. He said it would be an extra $ 300 but that this is not possible without a prescription in Ontario. i told him i would call him tomorrow to confirm the ordering of the Pro because i wanted to check out what he had told me and it appears to be true.
When I told him today that there was no data, he initially said i was wrong and so was Pugsy's chart and he got out his computer to check the SD card. He appeared surprised that it didn't. He apologised several times. It is hard to know who to trust these days. At least he tried to make it right. I don't think I have any choice but to order the Pro. I will check back to see if you have any other input.
Thank you both for all your help!!!!!!!

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
It wasn't my chart...it was Phillips Respironics chart from their own website.abbey101 wrote:When I told him today that there was no data, he initially said i was wrong and so was Pugsy's chart and he got out his computer to check the SD card.
You may find you can use the Small and XSmall nasal pillows pretty much equally. I know that I can and both sizes seem to seal well. The larger sizes will NOT make a person's nostrils larger unless someone wants to cram the whole thing up inside the nostril and then it would hurt like the devil. But what do we expect from someone who doesn't know his machines.
Too bad about the APAP but I know in Canada it is much harder to get APAP. I won't comment on the extra $50 for the Pro....It isn't right but sometimes less hassle is worth it. The PR S1 Pro is still an excellent machine and will give you the data you need to monitor things. Software is easy to get and use and you should be right on top of things in no time.
Always make sure they give you the 3 pillows that come in the mask set up. The size that you don't use you can swap with someone who does need it and doesn't use the size you like. That is what a lot of us do. Especially in Canada because ResMed won't allow US suppliers to send even the little pillows outside the US. The mask is packaged with 3 sizes of pillows..they bought it with 3 sizes of pillows and they should sell it that way. We even have an ongoing thread here where members swap stuff..The Great Pillow Exchange.. not limited to nasal pillows though.
Oh, BTW have you seen the latest attachment for the Swift FX? viewtopic/t73577/New-Swift-FX-Bella-Mask.html Watch for the reviews...I have mine ordered but won't get it till next week. I love to try new stuff.

Re: REMstar Plus C-Flex Sleepyhead???
Hi Pugsy,
Yes i saw the new mask and will be very interested to hear the reviews. i have long hair so would certainly consider that in future if others find it as comfortable as the Swift FX /women. Good tip about the nasal pillow exchange as i won't need the medium. I really wondered about the supplier's comment on making my nostrils bigger LOL. Said he saw it happen to someone else.
It is great to have a forum to ask questions. I find it hard to understand how people have such a difficult time getting used to the machine and mask. I don't mean that in an insensitive way. i guess there are a lot of issues that i have no understanding about. For myself I feel ten years younger. So many times I had said to myself...I am too young to feel this terrible.......fifty-eight but felt like what I imagined 78 to feel like. I was totally shocked when the Dr said that during an hour and ten minutes of REM sleep I obstructed 53 times for between 16 and 43 seconds each time. I sleep by myself and had no idea. in one week i feel like my old self from a long long time ago. I just want to run around the block (can't tho due to a yet undiagnosed prob with my hip LOL) Previously I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia but now I am wondering if it was just sleep deprivation.
Thanks for helping me out Pugsy!
