POLL: How long do you think you had SA before you 'knew'?

I just looked more closely at the poll. How tragic it is that most have gone without a diagnosis or therapy for 15 years. We'd all have felt a lot better without the untreated apnea. I guess though docs are getting smarter.

I found the hard way.....Nearly got squashed on a main street as I was judging walking light it was green and it changed and I had fallen asleep and noticed it and I nearly walked into path of on coming traffic! Luckily, I had friend by my side and she stopped and hauled me back. Then when light turn green she help me by hauling up on her back. and me...light out, when she told what happened woke I nearly messed me pant over this sleep problem nearly cost me my life!

I hurried down my Doctor's and told her happened and if I get my sleep tended straight away they may not be a tomorrow for me! There a waiting last I was in urgent but they will not see for a month!Told doctor that I can't wait and she rang specialist and got the ball rolling, within a week a sleep study, They saw that I had OSA so it CPAP for me nose was constantly blocked so ENT was arranged as I could not sleep properly with block nose on cpap. Next week operation to shave my swollen and excess tubinates. After that I was able breath properly for first time my life!!! Got settled down with CPAP and now sleep with on every night!!!

Looking back at now, everything in my has always on the extreme side anyway.

Well I can honestly say I never fell asleep walking. Glad you survived and can now safely cross streets. Cpap is great!!!

My partner told me I had SA and would wake me up but I was in denial until I had surgery and the anesthesiologist told me I had it. I talked to my GP and she immediately made an appointment with the local sleep lab and doctor so I went right away. I was surprised to learn that I had what the doctor called critical SA, stopping breathing 55 times an hour but I had no symptoms. I guess that's why I had it for so long but looking back I think I had it for about 5 years prior to definite diagnosis.

I'm still not even sure I HAVE sleep apnea. My original sleep study had me at an AHI of only 6.6. My doctor suspected UARS and the CPAP seemed to help my sleep somewhat, but I still have my original problem, which is that I wake up all night long.

I voted before, but have to revise my estimate after reading several posts discussing dream recollection as a side-effect of OSA. I have always been able to remember my dreams. I mean, since high school, anyway. That was decades ago. . . . So, how long have I had OSA? Forever? Could be. Frankly, I hope I stop remembering my dreams, as many of them would be great starting points for horror flicks. If I could write out my dreams, I could give Steven King a run for his money -- if I didn't frighten myself to death in the process.

LOL, I had a dream the other night and I actually "finished" the dream. No clue what it was about though, just woke up thinking, "Wow, I've never finished a dream". Too bad, I might have been able to write a novel and become rich and famous.
