One Year Later

Post by Bodhi » Mon Jan 16, 2012 7:56 am

Today is my one-year anniversary being on CPAP.

So I laughed when I found that my AHI from last night was 0.0. These days it's usually around 0.3-0.5. But the numbers don't matter to me so much as how I feel.

Which is great. No more headaches in the morning, no black circles under my eyes, no need for afternoon snoozes, and not so much grumpiness and general tiredness/exhaustion, and a whole lot more energy and zest for life.

Just had to vent my happiness for this therapy.

SmartLink module works, but software doesn't, so I'm using SleepyHead. Thanks, JediMark!

Bodhi,

Awesome. It is great that your therapy is going so successfully and those AHI numbers are incredible! Looks like you have it all dialed in... way to go! Thanks for sharing and giving those of us who are still newbies hope and a milestone to shoot for (only on CPAP for a little over 2 months for me)

John

Thanks for the update. About once a week I realized how blessed I am for how well I also feel. My numbers are similar to yours.... Because of cpap therapy, I often realize how life is suppose to be. I cringe at how it would be without cpap therapy.

Happy papin'

WOW!!! Congrats, that is totally awesome. Thanks so much for posting that as I am a newbie and in desperate need of some hope that this thing does indeed work.

If you don't mind:

What was your AHI like the first couple of months?
How long did it take before you actually felt better?
Regarding daytime fatigue (my biggest problem), did it really get so much better?

THANKS!!!

Well, my symptoms were relieved with fairly minimal settings. Unlike some folks here, it doesn't take much air to clear my throat.
At first, my AHI was in the 1.5 - 2.5 range. My S9 Auto range was set by sleep dr. at 5 min to 10 max. A couple of months after starting CPAP I found this forum, got the software to see the graphs, and read of people actually changing their machine's settings. So I gave it a try. My only advise is to make small changes. The S9 min changes at .2 increments. I went from 5.0 min to 5.2 for a week or so and got my range to 1.0 - 0.7. I then changed from 5.2 to 5.4 and went to my present 0.3 to 0.5. I then went to 5.6 and my centrals shot way up and I was in to 2.0 range for AHI. Went back to 5.4 and have been happy with that. Now if I ever hit a 1.0 I'm upset! But this is very rare and probably triggered by seasonal allergies.

Regarding daytime fatigue: It's an unbelievable change for the better. After 2 pm (before CPAP) I was as if drugged and dragging. Now I am productive and MUCH happier. I only occasionally take a nap and that is when I've had a late night.

I will add that I took to therapy like a duck to water. Really no problems getting used to it. But again, my pressures aren't very high to begin with so leaks are less of a problem.

Everyone, thanks for your support and happy hosin'.
