cpap.com hypoallergenic cpap pillow

Post by SleepingUgly » Tue Jan 10, 2012 4:33 pm

Does anyone have this pillow, and if so, can you tell me whether you think it would work well for an 8-year-old kid who is side and stomach sleeping? He is always trying to sleep on the edge of his pillow so the mask is hanging off.

The other one I was thinking about is the buckwheat hull one, but at least just looking on the website, this appealed to him more. I'd also need to find out if he'd be allergenic to the buckwheat one.

I'm a side/stomach sleeper and have a Regensis buckwheat pillow. You can smush the hulls down so you have a nice hollow for your mask, and incredibly the pillow holds this shape all night - unless you move around a lot and change the shape of the pillow then.

I still sleep near the edge of the pillow, but this one works better than any other for me.

Cheers,
xena

I'll also put in a plug for Regenesis™ Pillow http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/produ ... ategory=14

Used in Asia for thousands of years, buckwheat hulls make ideal pillow stuffing material. They're light and bulky, absorb body moisture, and stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

This is the Extra Large version of the Regenesis Pillow. It measures 13 x 24 x 4 and holds a whopping six gallons of buckwheat hulls--weighing in at almost seven pounds.

When used in a semi-rigid, pre-quilted natural cotton shell, buckwheat hulls readily conform to the space between the body and the sleeping surface and once in place, do not shift even during active sleep, providing robust support right where you want it!

The pillow is easily adjusted to suit any sleeping position:

Side sleepers usually prefer a more full pillow. The four inch vertical side panel easily fills the space between the neck and shoulder.
Back sleepers typically remove about one third to one half of the hulls. In this configuration, the side panel can be used as a therapeutic cervical pillow: Simply create a nest for the back of the head and the hulls in the cervical area will stay in place even during active sleep.
Stomach can easily create an ideal, low-profile, cuddly pillow to suit their personal preferences.

The pillow ships with over six gallons of buckwheat hulls, more than enough to suit any sleeping position.

SU, why don't you make him one just like the picture. Seems to me theres an old thread on here that has the pattern. I just took an old foam pillow, cut it down and made a pillow case to fit. Now I use the buckwheat pillow and it doesn't bother my allergies.....but as we know everyones allergies are different.
Good luck.

I used the pillow for a short while, but the pillow was real "fluffy". If he can stand the "fluffy-ness", it's a goo cpap pillow. I now use the Contour memory-foam pillow now because it's "not-fluffy", and firm. Good Luck... Sheriff

The hypoallergenic one that I linked to initially? Sounds like it wouldn't be good for stomach or side sleeping, huh?

Just found out that buckwheat hull is highly allergic, and even if one doesn't have an allergy to it, one can develop one. We need that like a hole in the head.

I am looking for a squishy pillow that will stay where squished and is not too bulky, for a kid (so he's small) to stomach or side sleep. Right now he's sleeping on the edge of a fairly flat pillow.

What about one of those that has a bit of memory foam on one side (not a lot so not a really high profile) that you add water to so density and firmness is adjustable? I think Wulfman spoke highly of them. Can't remember the name though.

We tried this one early on, it's a good one but we could never find exactly the right water line for Mike's comfort so we got too frustrated. We gave it to our SIL who loves it.
