What is PB/csr on the sleepy head website I am getting some of this.. Is it periodic breathing. I copied and pasted it below:

Yes, the PB/CSR figure is the percentage of time that your system one is detecting breathing patterns that are characteristic of periodic breathing or Cheney-Stokes respiration.

It's not uncommon to have a bit of this now and then.

But if you are seeing substantial chunks of it night after night OR if your sleep study reports mentioned a problem with PB or CSR OR if you've been diagnosed with congestive heart failure (or heart disease in general), then you'll want to keep an eye on it and it's probably a good idea to speak to a doctor about it.

Would this be an example of fairly normal periodic breathing that the PR might score that way? I have a ResMed that doesn't seem to score such type of breathing:



Or are these just a chain of ill-formed hypopneas?

Here is a shot of a normal night, that my alarm goes off at 5:30, and I get up shortly after that. I lay in bed for a bit before I get up



Here is the night that I repeatedly hit the snooze and did not get up until 6:00 and was in that state of not quite awake and not quite asleep



I had my sleep doc look at this today, as my machine was scoring this as PB / csr, my docs office actually called me as I have the data modem in the back of my machine since they closely follow new patients for three months and can pull the data at will - yes its a bit scary, but it is nice to know that they do pay attention to it. She told me that this was nothing to worry about at this point and I needed to work on my sleep hygiene, go to bed and get up at the same time each morning.

The only thing they are concerned about is the number of CA events, if these do not go down over the next few weeks they are going to send me back for a third sleep study. Right now they changed some medications and they are wondering if they are related to the old med I was taking.

Whoa... I would agree. You were OA/CA'ing like a metronome, very much on a cycle, judging by the fairly even spacing. It's nice they are paying attention to you.

Did the ResScan software explicitly highlight that? I am using SleepyHead.

This is what CSR flow looks like.


I sometimes will see short bursts like this one which might be true PB
My machine flags PB in green.


But sometimes the machine flags stuff that just sort of looks like the PB pattern
These maybe hyponea wannabes. I am not sure. No Hyponeas or apneas or Clear airways were flagged with this flagged flow rate. It certainly doesn't look anything like a real Classic CSR pattern.


In general even if either of these examples are real, I don't worry because these are rare and not much time is ever flagged in PB. Most nights I have zero PB flags.

I'm a newbie to this, but that also is like clockwork, right down to the number of cycles within the evenly spaced cycles. Great (for us) examples, thank you! I have my "puppy sized" chain of ill formed hypopneas quite often during each night, so my O2/CO2 control loop is probably "resonating" but not of any significance, I can see in comparison.
