How Often Do You Download xPAP Data?

Post by NightHawkeye » Fri Mar 10, 2006 6:32 am

In the never ending quest for enlightenment, today's question is; "How often do you download your machine data?"

Having been in the IT field for the last 30+ years, I naturally have to have a computer tell me how I slept, too.....

Den
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

Bill,

For the first couple of months I downloaded my sleep data every day. The downloads on Encore Pro seem to pile up and not have to scroll down the screen to see the last download. So I now download the data every several days and delete the data on the card each time so it does not take so long to load every day. My question now is, should I delete the earliest downloads in Encore Pro and will that delete the data in the database?

I find that I really only look at the last 30 days in My Encore.

One thing that I have done is to download the daily data into a spreadsheet and added a column for which type of mask that I wore each night (FF mask versus nasal pillows). I then sort and average the data for each type of mask and I was amazed at how the data changes with different types of masks.

Interesting survey by the way,

George

i download it daily, but then I'm still a newbie and need to know how I slept. I know I should go on how I feel and not what the machine is saying, but I wonder if there is a psychological element to how I feel. I've felt bad for such a long time I expect to feel bad and therefore will. I have caught myself saying I'm tired to someone and then realizing that I'm not actually tired.

My 2c.

Every 3 or four days, I would do it every day but I don't want to put the added wear and tear on the card and machine. I want the ability to read the data to continue as long as it can.

I find it hard to wait, but data needs to avj so you can see the true trends, one night in it's self doesn't form a good way to make decisions, everyone has bad nights.

I am still new enough to all this that I download the data daily. Once I find the right settings, 'll problably then just do it once a week. I also am putting the data in spreadsheet (thanks GoofProof)

Had best results so far last night. AHI 3.9

Haven't had titration study yet. May 18 is the date for that. Pretty sad to have titration study some 5 months after being diagnosed with severe OSA (106 AHI) destats 72%. Which is why I decided on the Remstar Auto and software, card reader so I could monitor myself.

Spreadsheet

Could someone explain to someone (MYSELF!) how to do a spreadsheet? I think I have Excel on my PC, how does one compile a spreadsheet with this data?

Suzy (the non-computer whiz)

Sounds like you made a good decision to go ahead and get the Remstar Auto and get on with your therapy. The service you're getting from your medical professionals leaves a lot to be desired.

Shirley, why are you bothering with a titration study after being on APAP for so long? Is there a specific reason or info you're hoping to get?

Bill

I download my data daily. I get a detailed report on Encore Pro and then I use the Daily page from MyEncore as a coversheet. Once a week I print a detailed report from MyEncore as a type of weekly detailed summary.

I would love it for someone to write a primer on interpreting the graph data from Derek's graphs and Encore Pro. I can read graphs, its just knowing what is of primary significance that confuses me at times.

It would be nice if my MD had a better understanding. I am seriously thinking asking my MD for a referral to a sleep doc in Kaiser who I presume will help me with all this info.

Be sure to let us know when you find that guy, slumberer. I'm sure there are others in your geographical vicinity who'd be willing to travel quite a few miles to see him.

Actually, I wondered that myself. LOL. Cause I am sure I will have this all figured out long before then, but it is part of the package and the Ontario Government pays for it, so, I will go and see if the results match what I come up with. Apparently they ask you to bring your own mask for the titration study. Boy are they going to learn how it should be done when I get there. My sleep doctor is on CPAP and told me it took him about 6 masks and 3 months to get used to all this, and here they are expecting us to bring our own mask. How do they think we can find the right mask if no one helps?

My insurance that I pay out of pocket for (Ontario Blue Cross) won't pay for any of my cpap equipment so I am going to get moneys worth out of Government by going titration study. Really does seem silly to have it so far after diagnoses.

OK, I understand now. I'm sure I'd do the same thing. Actually, I pretty much did that at the end of last year year when my deductible had been met. Everything after that was paid for 100%.

I guess you'd have to think like a centralized planner to appreciate that it's for the greater good and all.

It's good that you decided to take charge yourself, Shirley, rather than wait for the system. Also, sounds like you got lucky finding a doc who uses CPAP himself.

Bill
