I'm so glad my wife had a friend suggest this board for info. I just recently was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and am still a bit in the dark about a lot of things. Reading the different posts has been very informative to say the least.
My wife has been telling me for awhile now that I would stop breathing when I slept. It was getting very common that she was not sleeping because she would have to shake me to get me breathing again. We talked to my doctor and was scheduled for a sleep study. The numbers from the study were scary to hear. I was having over 100 events an hour and O2 sats at just over 50. With asthma on top of all that I was, needless to say, concerned. I just got my machine a couple of days ago and I already am starting to feel the difference.
I feel alot better and more confident now that I have read some of the posts here because I know I'm not alone in this as alot of others are going through the exact same thing.
Glad I found this place

Re: Glad I found this place
So glad you're on CPAP now. Both you and your wife can breathe a whole lot easier.
And yeah, I'm new here, too, looking up information for my father, and there's such a wealth of not just information, but understanding and compassion, too. When my father has a question, I print up pages of the best answers from similar questions here, and it helps him so much to know so many are going through the same thing and to hear what they've learned from their own experience.
By the way, if you didn't see it, check out the CPAP Learning Center - there's practically a whole book there, with everything explained and illustrated really well.

Re: Glad I found this place
Yo have definitely come to the right place. I have been on xpap for just about 13 months and I know for sure that I would never have persevered if it were not for the help, advice and knowledge available on the this forum. It's quite a big adjustment and for some of us it can be a struggle but stick with it and the benefits are worth it. There is no way that I would have been able to accomplish on my own what I have accomplished with the help of the forum.

Re: Glad I found this place
I can safely say I wouldn't still be on CPAP (10 months later) if it hadn't been for these forums. As I got a horrible night's sleep at the titration study, the pressure settings were way off, and I'd have gotten no benefit from the therapy if it hadn't been for the help I got from the folks here.
Hang in there, and ask questions!

Glad you found the forum, too. I have learned quite a lot, not the least of which is how much more there is to know.
Hopefully your wife won't have any trouble getting back to a regular sleeping schedule.
I know you didn't ask for advice, but here's some anyway- please use your machine all night, every night, and naps to get the best results. With your severe sleep apnea you shouldn't sleep without masking up.
Goodluck.

Re: Glad I found this place
Thanks everyone. I'm finding that the hardest part is remembering to put the mask on for naps. I have small children and we tend to have naps during the day for various lengths of time. My wife and even the kids have all gotten in on the act of yelling at me if I start to doze off during a movie or something. I've only been on the machine since friday so I'm still not down to a routine at this point.
