Change in Resmed SoftGel cushions

Post by jazzer4 » Fri Nov 04, 2011 9:10 am

Has anyone noticed a change in the SoftGel cushions?

I ordered a replacement cushion for my Mirage SoftGel Nasal mask.

Wow, couldn't use it as it was so uncomfortable. Much stiffer than other replacement ones.

After only one tough night I went back to my old cushion.

Now really...you shouldn't need to "break-in" a new cushion.

I think they changed something about that cushion.

Has any other SoftGel users noticed this within the last month or so?

P.S. I replace every 3 months

Thanks for the heads-up.
I was actually thinking about that nice soft gel as my next nasal mask--not any more.
I will bring it up at the next cpap education meeting in Lincoln on the 17th
(7:00 p.m. at Madonna rehab hospital in Lincoln.)

Could it have been the cushion for the Activa mask instead? The maks frames are apparently interchangeable. I recently had a trial week with a Resmed Softgel and it came with an Activa cushion as well, which I did not use because it was not soft.

No, I don't think so as the softgel has that blue stuff inside it.

The Softgel cushion and the Activa/Activa LT all fit same frame. The difference is that the Softgel is stiff (the blue stuff in it) and does not expand as does the Activa/Activa LT. I, too, find the Softgel more uncomfortable.

No, maybe I didn't explain my point to well.

I like the softgel, it's heavier, but it doesn't need to be as tight on me as the LT.

What I was asking is....has anyone who uses the softgel noticed a difference in a replacement cushion in the last few months?

I am researching this nasal mask as I'm looking for something that will work well for a larger than average nose. Your original post question never got answered. If ResMed has changed the softgel cushions recently, It would be good data to have. Almost everything I have read thus far for this mask has been positive, most posters very happy that the Mirage Softgel exists. Has anyone else noticed a difference in new cushions for this mask?

I am probably on my 4th softgel cushion and they have all felt the same. I just got another about two weeks ago and it feels the same. I wonder if you got one that sat around in storage too long and degraded?

I just tossed my softgel away after just 10 days. I purchased a mask off ebay and I suspect it was very old.

My son and I both ordered replacement softgel cushions.
He from L.A. and me from Tx. but both from C-pap.com.
They were new.

We laughed because we both used the new cushion for a night then put it aside and went back to our old cushion.
The new one just felt so hard compared to the old one.

Maybe it was just "really time" to change our cushion as the old one was tooooo comfortable. Which made the new one feel
way to hard. For me it had been three months on the same cushion.

Since then somehow they got mixed up and I can't tell the old one from the new one now.

Someone mentioned trying this mask.
I like this mask. I cut my own liners out of flannel and use terry cloth on the head piece for comfort.
I don't have any marks on my face in the morning and it has those wonderful ResMed clips on the sides.
I can pull my hair out the openings in the headgear so it doesn't get crushed.

I wasn't happy with this mask till I made the liners. It just hurt my face, but now the liners have made all the difference in the world.

I can't tell the difference between my old or new either but I think the new are a little whiter. I do think that I feel a better seal when they are new just opened though....and then when it gets mixed up with the old one I can't tell.
