Deciphering Encore Reports

Hopefully someone can direct me where to look. I've been reading the threads but can't find specific info.

When I read the reports there are many numbers:

ex. APnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI)
It is made up of 3 numbers:
HI, OAI and NR AHI. What are these specifically and what do they mean?

Also Daily mask leak rate:

There are 3 numbers. Is the avg leak the most important? What is the relationship to each other?

I'm really looking for somewhere to read up on these numbers and what they mean in relation to each other. Have these been discussed somewhere previously either here or is there a reference material somewhere that gives a good overview?

Tom,

The link that Bob gave you is a good one.

For more definition, any specific terms that you are in search of?

I believe that different CPAP machine makers will probably have different definitions for some of the terms based on how their machine works. For Obstructive Apnea I think of it as a 80% restriction in air flow. Hypopnea as half that or 40% restriction. And Flow Limitation as half again or 20% restriction in air flow.

I'm not entirely sure but I do not believe that Non-responsive Apnea is included in the AHI (Apnea, Hypopnea Index).

But you are on the right track being able to see the information that the APAP can provide and hopefully see improvement.

Tom,

As far as your mask leak rate goes, there should have been a booklet that came with your mask that shows the approximate "vent" (leak) rates at various pressures. The one with mine shows it as a graph.
The "average" rate is what you would compare to the chart.

As far as AHI, the goal is to keep it below 5.0 (which is considered "normal"), any farther below that is a bonus.

Good point about the mask leak rate. I'll check the documentation re the masks I have. That will give me a good baseline for comparison.
