Prayer Request

Post by VVV » Tue Nov 29, 2011 7:51 am

phoebe368 was on my mind when I awoke this morning from a good night’s sleep. Phoebe is a cpaptalk member for three years now. She has suffered with our breathing affliction for years and had an unsuccessful MMA (major ouch!).

She and her doctors have decided her condition is so bad that she is undergoing a surgery to implant a permanent tracheostomy this morning.

Please pray for a successful surgery, quick healing, and excellent health in the future.

Thank you.

phoebe368 wrote:For those of you unfamiliar with my story, I had the MMA/deviated septum surgery performed in Jan. 2010 which improved my symptoms about 40-50% but not my RDI. I had the mma jaw advancement surgery a year ago and still have an RDI of 14, all hypopneas.
phoebe368 wrote:For some people, cpap does not work. I had sleep apnea and was on cpap for over a year at every pressure even the max of 20 cm. It did benefit me some but I was still suffered from debilitating symptons. I was treated by the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic and Dr. Kasey Li in Palo Alto, CA. These are the premier experts on sleep apnea. I finally had the mma (maxillo mandibular advancement) surgery this past Jan.
phoebe368 wrote:I don't trust the machine reports results. Mine always shows an AHI of under 2 and I still feel symptons of fatigue/sleepiness/lethargy. Also had blood work/tests which came back normal. I had the mma jaw advance surgery 2 years ago but it was unsuccessful. I had a post-op RDI of 14. The doc said I have a very floppy airway and my brain is sensitivie to respiratory events and airway collapse. I am now scheduled for a permanent tracheostomy on 11/29. If this doesn't solve my sleep issues, I too will apply for disability as I cannot work in this state and am at risk of being fired when i return.

VVV,

Done!

You didn't mention a time for the surgery (perhaps she didn't say or you don't know), but I will try to remember to take her before the throne a few more times today. May Gods comforting, healing hand be with her and her family through this difficult time.

John

Twenty years ago, when treatment options were much more limited, it was not unusual to find someone who had a tracheostomy. While I will certainly join everyone in their prayers for her, it's good to know that this tends to be a very successful surgery. There will be a lot of adjustments she will need to make, but it completely eliminates the source of the obstruction.

So, here's hoping her surgery and recover will be as smooth as possible.

May the Lord's comfort be with Phoebe.
Trache's are an old solution, very well proven.
Not as popular as they once were, but very workable.

I hope this goes well for her... MMA.is a type of surgery. Not sure if it includes the jaw bone adjustment, the uvula in the back of the throat and maybe removing some excess tissues that cause obstruction. This poor woman has tried so hard to rid herself of this condition. My heart goes out to her.

I am sure I am late posting, and that surgery is over, but my prayers will include a quick and easy recovery as well.
