Can Anyone Recommend a Pulse Oximeter?

Post by anglett » Sun Nov 27, 2011 12:11 am

I was hoping that someone could recommend a pulse oximeter for me to purchase. I have been looking online but mainly at amazon and I am looking for one that can record overnight readings at least and has software included. I have been reading the reviews on most of the ones available through amazon and I was thinking that if anyone on here could recommend something for me that would be great. It's crazy going through reviews sometimes because one person can think something is awesome and then another think it's useless and it's not too helpful. If not recommend a specific one, then maybe recommend a supplier or website that carries them that is trustworthy? I am in the middle of a pile of medical bills from everything I have been going through recently so I was hoping I could find something that isn't too expensive but is still reliable at the same time.

I have been on CPAP for 3 weeks now and the reason I came to be diagnosed for OSA has only gotten worse which is headaches. I want to be able to monitor myself at night to see how I am doing with my oxygen levels. As far as looking at my data from the CPAP everything looks great so far with no bad leaks and very low AHI. I just got my mask liner from padacheek yesterday and that made the mask a million times more comfy so I was very pleased with it. I'm also sleeping straight through the night with hardly any interruptions whatsoever. I'd just feel better to have one on had to be able to monitor myself and to make sure everything is ok with my oxygen levels.

Thanks!

I use a CMS-50E.
I am very pleased with it. You can see an example of the report the software generates in one of my recent posts.

Also a big fan of the CMS-50F, very easy to use. Got mine off Amazon though.

I've been pleased with my SPO-7500 from Turnermedical.com

It comes with good software and does a fine job.

I use the Nonin 3150 Wrist Oximiter with Nvision software.

IT is a excellent device, however it is very expensive when you couple it with the software.

I hear that Resmed has a add in 3 pc. unit for the S9. It is hard to find & from what I understand, also quite expensive.

visit the http://www.pulseoxstore.com/Downloadable-Pulse-Ox.html for some good choices. Be aware that the CMS models with lithium ion batteries are quite hard to find replacement batteries... and when ordered from China the battery will cost in excess of $20. Not sure how long the battery is good for....mine is over a year and is still going strong, but a forum member recently needed a new battery after 2 yrs.

Any suggestions as to what to avoid or beware of when purchasing a PO?
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

I have the handheld CMS recording pulse ox. I bought that one because it runs on AA batteries and has a desat alarm making it my power outage resort to gadget to wake me up if I started to desaturate -- lith ion batteries need to be recharged all the time, not possible during power outages. Now I have solar-powered battery backup power, so that pulse ox is my backup. Still like it tho, nice big screen, 3 brightness levels, 2 modes of LED review of previous sleep session. Software with incomprehensible instructions but lots of memebers here have posted instructions. 3 of us in our local have this unit and all of us like it a lot. Costs between $180 and 200 depending on where you buy; I bought that a spot pulse ox from the pulse ox store.

Can someone recommend a few vendors to buy these from? I'm looking at the CMS60C and a few of the other handheld ones which are not found on Amazon.

Thanks,

John
