S9 SD Card
S9 SD Card
My question is if I buy a new SD card and put it in my S9 Auto Set will the machine write to the new SD card the data that is on the machine?

Re: S9 SD Card
Hi squid.....we had a power outage and it nullified the card. They are sending me a new one

I think someone answered that the detailed data is not saved in your machine after a certain amount of time. Cannot remember if it is 30 days or what. I would think that the summary data that is saved will probably write onto the new SD card. Hopefully, you have detailed data saved in your computer?

Re: S9 SD Card
The reason I'm asking is that I'm changing from my S9 Auto Set to a S9 VPAP and they might want to keep the card with the old machine. If they do I want to keep my data from the old machine, so it's more or less a back up in case they do.

Re: S9 SD Card
I think you will need the new card that comes with the S9 VPAP going forward. I don't think you would be able to use your S9 Autoset card in the new machine because I believe each card is tied to the serial number of the machine. The new machine they will bring to you should have its own card. Download all your data from your Autoset into your computer so you will have saved files. That way, if they do take the card for compliance monitoring or whatever, you will have all of your data from your old machine.squid13 wrote:The reason I'm asking is that I'm changing from my S9 Auto Set to a S9 VPAP and they might want to keep the card with the old machine. Re: S9 SD Card
If you have your data in Rescan you don't really need it on the card. I think ResScan is going to want a new patient file for the new machine since they are tied to machine serial number.
But as to your original question, You can put a new card in and the S9 will write all the summary data to the new card.

Re: S9 SD Card
You can put any standard SD card in your S9. I don't know about the high capacity ("HC") SD cards. Just for grins, I just stuck an 8 gig SD HC card in my SD to see if it would work. I got an invalid data message, clicked "yes" to erase the data, but after 2 or 3 minutes, it was still erasing, and I got tired of waiting, so I put my 1 gig card back in. (Now my computer is having a hard time with the SDHC card but I'm sure I'll figure it out). (Update - I stuck it in my camera, which choked on it too, but at least it let me reformat it... close call )apneawho wrote:I think you will need the new card that comes with the S9 VPAP going forward. If you want to keep the data on an SD card, you copy the card to your hard drive, then copy it back to a new SD card.

But if you put that new SD card into the S9 it will be erased. The S9 will accept only an SD card it has formatted, and which it has written.JeffL wrote:If you want to keep the data on an SD card, you copy the card to your hard drive, then copy it back to a new SD card.

I just tried to prove you wrong, but I didn't get the results that I expected.idamtnboy wrote:But if you put that new SD card into the S9 it will be erased. I put an SD card into my computer, and formatted it.
I put the formatted card into my S9, and I got the "reading card" message, not the "invalid data" message. That tells me that the S9 did not have to format the card again.
I put the card back in my PC, and all the normal files and the Datalog folder were once again on the card, but the Datalog was empty I expected all the data form day 1 (8/14/11 in my case) to be there, but it wasn't. I don't know what gives there. I thought all the data in the machine was automatically rewritten to the card.
I also copied all the folders and files from the card I'm currently using onto my desktop, and then copied them to another card that I formatted on the computer. When I put that card in the S9, I got the "invalid data" message.
Re: S9 SD Card
The first formatted card you put in had no data on it, correct? The S9 is OK with a basic formatted card with no data on it. It did write all the data from the machine onto the card. Apparently what you have missed seeing in other discussions about this is that the detail data and high resolution are not written to the S9 internal memory. Only the summary data is retained in the S9, and that for up to 365 days. If the SD card is not in the machine during therapy all the detail and high resolution data evaporates into the ether of cyber space, never to be captured again.JeffL wrote:I put an SD card into my computer, and formatted it.

The S9 writes a file, journal.dat, into the root directory of the card. But here is the catch. That file is physically located near the end of the data area of the card. Windows, when it copies all the files from the PC to the card, puts all the files in one right after the other at the beginning of the data area of the card. When the S9 sees that the journal.dat file is not located in the proper place on the card it rejects it. If one was really, truly, adept at using a hex editor to modify the contents of the SD card you maybe could write the journal.dat file to the correct location and have the S9 accept it. I tried once but wasn't successful.

I've never seen a journal.dat file.idamtnboy wrote:The first formatted card you put in had no data on it, correct? The S9 is OK with a basic formatted card with no data on it. At the root directory, I have:
Datalog (folder)
Identification.crc
Identification.tgt
SRT.crc
SRT.edf
In the Datalog folder, there are daily .crc and .edf files.
As far as I know, I'm not recording the detail data, and I assume the files in the Datalog are the summary files.
Is that right?
Re: S9 SD Card
The journal.dat is a hidden file. I have Windows folder options set to view hidden files so didn't think about that being the case. The files in the Datalog directory are the detail files. The SRT.edf file in the root is the summary data file. The crc files are check files with a value calculated by an unknown algorithm that are generated by the S9. Resscan calculates a crc when it reads a file off the card. If the two crc numbers don't match that means the file was modified after the S9 generated it and therefore is not a valid data file.JeffL wrote: I've never seen a journal.dat file.

Re: S9 SD Card
Thanks for the info on the files.
I took another look, and still don't see the journal file. I looked at tools/folder options/view, and I do have "Show hidden files and folders" selected.
