Choosing new machine, need help
Yesterday my loan ResMed S8 AutoSet II CPAP machine was returned to my medical center. Next Friday i will receive the results of my sleep period and my doctor and me talk about the results.
I found the ResMed S8 AutoSet II CPAP a wonderful machine, but if i buy it ( i am new on this ) i have to buy the card reader.
The S9 Autoset is way better because uses an standard SD card, and can be read by a normal laptop.
I know i have to talk with my doctor but i´m not sure choosing the S9 Autoset because the power "brick", i really don't like it. I´ve read about the new features and certainly looks great , but need the opinion of current owners because ( pardon me ) S9 looks more like a "fashion furniture" than a medical machine.
Thanks in advantage for your help choosing my machine

I have owned machines from all the major brands, and also both machines you mention! In my opinion the Resmed S-9 is by far the most advanced machine I have ever had, is almost silent, gives great therapy, is sleek and effecient, and as you say has the sd card, which makes it simple to track your progress ! My opinion is if you can have the DR write a prescription for EXACTLY what you want, and it is the S-9, you will have one of the BEST machines on the market as well as being able to track your data!
All the best!

Re: Choosing new machine, need help
No one likes the power brick. Even my machine has one. One gets used to it. Only problem is weight if you have to carry the machine and even then it is minimal. Are you the soldier in the avatar and is the brick a problem because of frequent need to change places to sleep?
The SD card data is much more important than worrying about a brick IMHO.
Respironics has always used the power brick. ResMed just started. Unsure if the other new machines like DeVilbiss use one (haven't paid attention).
If your choices are only in ResMed machine's....the new technology and more data with the S9 more than make up for the disadvantage of the power brick. Not only does the S9 use the SD card it offers more data also when compared to the S8 machines.

The DeVilbiss Intellipap AutoAdjust w/Smart Flex has NO POWER BRICK! It is also very quiet, has a small footprint, and it has the longest warranty in the industry--3 yrs.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: Choosing new machine, need help
Can someone explain what a power "Brick" is, exactly? Thanks.

Re: Choosing new machine, need help
Thanks a lot to all for clarify your point about S9 and helping me out !!!!! , i think only resmed machines can found here in Chile ( i´ve only seen resmed machines, even at my sleep study, only resmed ) so waiting for Friday to talk to doctor.
This week without the machine was awful , horrible and full of brain fog an zombie mode ... pure cr** !!
But Friday hopefully is the day to buy my own machine .... can´t wait .... never feel so so mad like this week, because now i know how well you can sleep with a CPAP machine.
This week i miss the machine a lot

Gabe , power "brick" looks like the laptops power supply, it was connected to the CPAP machine on the S9 is the same on the image below.
and it deliver power to your machine, some CPAP machines does not have the power "brick" , others like S9 have it.
Hope it helps to you, bye.

Re: Choosing new machine, need help
You definitely want an S9 instead of an S8. It records a lot more data. The S8 is obsolete.
Do not under any circumstances accept a ResMed Escape or Escape Auto. Some DMEs will try to sell you one of those. Especially watch that they don't try to trick you with an Escape Auto instead of an AutoSet.
Respironics PRS1 (Philips Respironics System One) machines are also OK. Auto and Pro are OK. Don't accept a PRS1 PLUS machine.
In some ways, the external power brick is a good thing. If you get a power surge or simply get a power supply failure, you just change out the brick, instead of having to have it serviced by someone.

Re: Choosing new machine, need help
You'll find it very difficult to get the card reader for the S8, just read in another thread about someone trying to get one on ebay from someone in Israel and having problems with that. The S9 is a great machine.
