Chest pain, fluttering started up on beginning CPAP
I read this older thread
viewtopic/t67251/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=51 ... n+#p474312
my experience is a little different. the chest pan is fairly mild and Ive had it in the past (a year ago though) , along with a fluttering, but this recent bout had started up the night I started on CPAP last week. I've read that OSA can cause heart issues, but what cause would there be using CPAP (at 6 fixed) that would trigger such a thing (whatever it is). I am monitoring my BP (seems ok) and I just ordered an O2 wrist meter.
yes, if it persists Ill get it checked out. It could even be a lung thing for all I know, but it does feel like the heart.
On the Resmed M Series Ive gone from 28 (no CPAP) to av. under 3, so that is a good result AHI wise (the machine is loaned and provider locked so I have limited information).
More O2 at night gets the old heart exited? (was 89% nadir, 94% av in sleep test).
More air in lungs at night?
More disturbed sleep getting used to the strange apparatus that is CPAP? (it doesnt feel like worse sleep).
You'd think CPAP would make a broken heart (if applicable) happier. Any ideas?

Re: Chest pain, fluttering started up on beginning CPAP
Could be related to anxiety over using CPAP/mask.

Re: Chest pain, fluttering started up on beginning CPAP
Some people have chest muscle pain when they start out because these muscles have to work harder in order the breathe out. Like exercise sore muscles. Your diaphragm is also involved.
You need a medical person to make sure it is these muscles that are complaining and not something more serious. ASAP!

yes that's possible, though the machine seems to have breath out and it and only on 6. Ill admit Im not that fit and that the whole CPAP experience is refreshingly like breathing a lot better. (I had a digital breathing out test done recently).BlackSpinner wrote:Some people have chest muscle pain when they start out because these muscles have to work harder in order the breathe out. I have terrible pain in my pectoral muscles, shoulders and back since starting on a EPAP machine. Same Questions and search for clues.

My chest was sore until I lowered my pressure from 10 to 9. It could have been coincidental though so I wouldn't recommend lowering pressure.

Peterg,
When this occurs, just take your pulse. Use fingertips over radial artery of the wrist just like Nurses do. Normal is around 70 to 80 beats per minute. Is it strong and steady or weak and thready? Irregular? Lots can be determined by your pulse.
Before my central apneas got controlled, I would find myself wide awake with a rapid bounding pulse in the middle of the night. I knew I'd had a bad desat from not breathing. I sure don't miss that.
Oh, and chest pain and chest tenderness are two different things. If you can push on your chest wall and get discomfort...that's tenderness and is almost always chest wall (muscle or inflamation) issues, But if it's totally internal and is accompanied by breathing difficulties, sweats and arm pain: dial 911

Its good that you have ordered an oximeter. That will also report your pulse rate. The sensation of the heart fluttering COULD be Atrial fibrillation. Strong, erratic heart beat; slow heart beat; skipping beats, etc. can all be indications of A fib. Most are benign but you do need to check it out. Having that oximeter to verify if your heart really is fluttering, skipping, racing, etc. will be a big help to you.

It could also be a muscle spasm or esophageal spasm. I had no idea such things even occurred until it woke me up one night. I ended up in the ER because it would not stop. It turned out my heart was fine! The doctor's best guess when I explained the fluttering feeling in my chest (my radial pulse felt normal--fast, but not as 'fluttery' as my chest felt), was an esophageal spasm. A few months later I had a similar episode that involved chest pain, so back to ER again. Once again, no heart problem. I asked the ER if it could be muscle spasms, and he said that's what it sounded like to him, only this time it appeared to be in the chest and back muscles. He went on to add, though, that any chest pain should ALWAYS be investigated and even thanked me for doing the responsible thing.

In my views that once my chest was sore until I lowered my pressure from 11 to 10. It could have been coincidental though so I wouldn't recommend lowering pressure.
