Trying to find the answer..

Post by kaiya2465 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 8:43 am

I have been using the EasyLife nasal mask & really like it, but am wondering if there is an EasyLife FFM. I have been searching & have seen a partial video mentioning plans for it but unsure if it exists or not...

Thanks in advance

Kaiya,
I'm mostly a Respironics mask user. Have used the EasyLife nasal. To my knowledge there isn't an EasyLife FF but looking at the ComfortFull2...it appears to be a no-gel silicone sealed FF mask. It's rumored to be a good sealing mask but I haven't tried it.

Thank you Jamis. Will take a better look at that one. I sure hope they come up with a Easylife FFM though.

I agree Kaiya...
That double seal allows good sealing with very light pressure on the face. Took me awhile to learn to adjust them properly...I overtightened. But once I learned how to adjust them, the comfort level went up. I use FF masks now and would also be interested in FF EasyLife.

The ResMed Quattro line of FFM's are non-gel, double-seal type masks. I use a Quattro myself, and it works really well. Avoid the Quattro FX unless you're ready to do a lot of tweaking to deal with the leaks.

Note that the FX isn't a bad mask, it's just much more challenging. I prefer the Quattro with the stabilizing forehead pad, but it's only personal preference.

And, I'm the opposite. I prefer the Quattro FX w/o the forehead piece. I never have done well w/any mask that has a forehead piece that I have tried.

I don't like the forehead piece on the reg quattro & it feels really heavy. As far as the quattro fx is concerned by using it is that I hate it. Leaks all the time-- I want to sleep, not argue with a mask.. So I need to continue my search for a FFM that I can deal with when I have colds.......The Quattros & Liberty are the only FFMs I have tried.

Thanks guys for your input much appreciated.

Kaiya,
I failed to mention that I have had good luck using the Respironics Comfortgel FF mask. It has an adjustable forehead piece and a hose quick disconnect. When I use it with a T shirt gasket, it's comfortable with minimal leaks. I run fairly low pressures though...(under 10)

PS: I also like the Quattro...I get about the same results with either mask.

I've been using the EasyLife nasal mask and am having a really hard time getting it to "stay put" when I roll from my back to either side. I wake up because the mask dislodges and starts leaking. Guess I'm a light sleeper. I finally fall asleep after 2-3 hours and wake up feeling groggy and still tired. Guess this is what you must mean by "arguing with the mask"

Are you using any kind of anti-leak strap? Are you unable to keep your mouth closed, thus why you want a FFM?

Curious...

Everyone's different, but I never had any luck at all with any Respironics mask other than the Comfort Lite II (nasal/nasal pillows) mask and the FitLife "Total" FF mask. All their other nasal and FF masks would start leaking like crazy on me as the night went on, especially if I turned over. ResMed masks have generally given me much better seals than Respironics have. But whatever works for each individual is the mask to use, regardless of the brand.

I am able to keep my mouth closed, but I get a light pop when mouth fills with air. I am a light sleeper due to not getting out of stages 1&2 of sleep so it wakes me. I have tried chin straps but the same thing happens so it don't help using one. I am just thinking maybe with a ffm I won't wake up as easily when my mouth does pop, but not sure if it will be better or worse. This is still confusing me, but I am pressing forward. I can breathe with the setting of 8, don't need my ramp like I used to. The thing is finding the right mask to fit. Again I know the mask fit will never be perfect but close would do. I am up for more suggestions if anyone has some.

Thanks

A FFM is worth a try. I use a total face mask and find it very comfortable and effective. Most nights my leaks are 0. With the total face mask (or a FFM) I do not have my mouth filling up with air. It doesn't matter if I'm congested and breathing through my nose, or breathing through my mouth.
Good luck with whatever you end up trying.

I'm having good luck w/the Quattro FX full face mask for comfort and mouth opening. I think I would really like the Respironics FitLife whole face mask except my forehead is too flat or the forehead frame of the FitLife too rounded and I get a bad leak and face fart in that area despite all I've tried so far. That is the only are w/the FitLife that I get a leak. Our local PR Rep did tell me that PR is aware of that as a common problem and are trying to rectify it.

I need to use a FFM because the extra air volume allows a higher EPR with my asthma. I have tried 1 FFM (Quattro) with a forehead brace and it gives me a headache. I have tried the Hybrid (leak city), Liberty (still an issue with breathing out pressure because of the pillows), FullLife (leak city), Quattro FX (leaking around the bridge of my nose and 'mask farts' around the bottom corners disturb sleep even when the machine says leak rates are reasonable).

I am currently trying a Zzz-Mask SG FFM with the headgear from the FullLife (without the chin strap). I do better with a 2 piece headgear on a full face mask, thus the use of the FullLife headgear with the Zzz-Mask SG FFM. The Zzz-Mask SG fits my face better than the Quattro FX. If this combination works I will need to plan ahead for replacements as my DME doesn't stock mask parts but will order them.
