Help with SD card...quick!

Post by tmorris » Sat Nov 19, 2011 3:57 pm

all I did was view my data on my SD card in the Rescan software. When I put the card back into the cpap machine it says "invalid card, erase all data?" and I select "NO" and it just keeps doing that...i go to the doc Wednesday...what the heck is going on here? It has never done this before...

Just a thought (I'm very new at this), has the little tab on the top been pushed to the lock position?

Well i have tried unlocking it too..i can still get the data up until this date..but i doubt the way it is now that it will record any further data. I lock it and says to unlock it...I unlock it and it says " card invalid, erase all data? I say NO then it starts all over to the invalid card

hmmmmmm....there will be someone who knows. How long have you been using it? Perhaps these SD cards need to be replaced now and then

Try wiping the contacts with your finger or blowing off dust. If that doesn't work reboot your machine by unplugging power source for about 30 seconds and plug back in. See if that will do it. Nothing unusual when you used the card in your computer I guess? Mine gave me that message once and I wiped it gently with my finger and it was fine. Let us know.

In Fall 2010 when I was using a Resmed S9 this happened to me a number of times. I finally figured out what was going on when I ran a virus scan on the computer that had ResScan installed on it. It was infected with some virus or other that was apparently writing some kind of hidden file(s) to the card.

For a work around:

0) Run a virus scan on the computer that you used to look at the data. And do everything you need to get rid of the virus or worm or whatever other kind of malware you happen to find.

1) Back the data on the SD card up to a computer that is KNOWN to be uninfected. I.e. Run the virus scan first. Then back the data up. The RE-run the virus scan to make sure the computer did not pick up a virus from the SD card. If the computer is now infected, then do everything you need to do to get rid of the virus or worm or whatever kind of malware was copied to the computer when you copied the data files.

2) After you KNOW the computer with the backed up data is UNINFECTED, then reformat the card---either let the S9 erase all the data or do it on an UNINFECTED computer. Or get a new SD card all together.

3) Copy the data files back to the newly reformated (or new) SD card.

4) Reinsert into the S9 and things should be ok.

Best of luck

For safety sake power down your machine before you remove the SD card (hold the on off button down for 3 to 5 seconds). Leave it off until you place the SD card back in the machine and then turn it on.

Just say "YES".... all the data your sleep clinician is likely to pay any attention to will be re-written to the SD card by the S9.

Cheers,

Bill

Chances are, if you were using a Mac, there were small files (ex. thumbs.db) written to the card if it was unlocked when you put it in the card reader. Maybe the S9 didn't like it and rebelled...

As another said, your usage files get rewritten to the card after the erase, so no big deal.

In the future, to avoid this, you can lock the sd card by sliding the little tab when you remove it from the S9, and unlock it before re-inserting it later. Some people never have this problem, but everyone's computer is different. Locking the card ensures that nothing will be written to it.

Back when I had the S9, I frequently backed up the data on the SD card to a mac. After putting the card into the mac, the S9 had no problems reading/writing the card.

But whenever I put the card in the infected PC, the S9 would insist on erasing the card.

The summary efficacy data will also be rewritten to the card. Only the detailed daily data will be lost

The same thing happened to me after I put the card into a PC that was not infected with any viruses. Granted, it only happened one time. It was the last time I inserted the card into the card reader without locking it first.

Regardless of the cause, locking your sd card can be the solution.

I think that happened to me once but I don't remember any of the details, however, The data is stored in the machine, so I agree with what Bill said, just select YES. If i recall correctly, that will reformat the card, and the machine will rewrite the data to the card.

What Jeff said.
And if you think your doc will want to look at more than compliance data, you can always take a copy of your patient file from ResScan to the appointment. But your card will only be missing 3-4 days of detailed data. They don't look at it.

I had that problem but the slider was part way toward the locked position. After 1 or 2 times putting it back into the machine all was OK.

But, if the S9 insists on rewriting the card, you're had. No way around it. It has a special way of writing certain data into a specific part of the card, which you cannot easily duplicate on the PC. So, if the S9 sees data that is foreign to what it writes, or data is on the card in the wrong location, (I'm referring to physical and not folder) the S9 will reformat the card before you can use.

As others have said, back up your data on the PC. The S9 will rewrite the summary data to the card, but nothing else, as the summary data is the only data that is stored in the S9 memory.
