Found a Full Face Mask for High Pressures

Post by charlestek » Sat Nov 19, 2011 8:39 am

My respiratory therapist just gave me a Phillips Respironics ComfortFull 2 (https://www.cpap.com/productpage/comfor ... dgear.html) to try and it seals very well without an extreme amount of strap tension , better than the original Quattro. However the AHI may be slightly higher, I have to use it a few more days and see. I am using a pressure of 17 cm H2O. The other drawback is that the exhaust port is extremely noisy.

Are you sleeping on your back? Was your pressure titrated for backsleeping?

IMO, everyone who has a high pressure should experiment with sidesleeping or stomachsleeping. You may be able to get good therapy with a much lower pressure. Search in Mars posts for "positional sleep apnea".

I tried this Respironics mask and had lots of leaks at pressures around 15 cm. The problem is that the double wall cushion collapses on my face when I tighten the headgear straps. I do much better with Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit #431 FF mask:

In the Fisher Paykel's mask the solid structure of the mask extends more forward and provide an enclosure to the cushion, while pressing the cushion against my face.

Also, I don't like in the Respironics mask:

1) the straps buckles
2) the exhaust vent holes being placed away from the face of the mask (in the air inlet elbow)

I also tried this mask a couple years ago and couldn't control the leaks. I went back to the Quattro. I am at a pressure of 12.

I tried about 8 masks at the try-on center of the respiratory care company. None worked. Quattro has problems even with pad a cheek mask liner.
For what ever reason this mask matches the contours of my face, which I suppose it does not for the other people. I tried the Fisher Paykel mask you mentioned and it leaked like a sieve.

I found this mask comes in a extra large size. Some suppliers do not stock it. Any way the extra large fit me better than the large qurtro. the extra lenght goes higher up the nose bridge, and does not hurt my nose. But it is a little wider than I need. so my cheeks have to ballon out to seal. Stupid that resmed only makes 3 sizes? If shoes came in 3 sizes most would be limping. I can get 18 pressure okay
