I applaud you for providing all the useful info in one place, Joe.

I'm also a realist and know that you will not be able to keep the site up for very much longer, so just turn it off whenever you think that time has come.

Regards,
Bill

I don't know about the legality; you probably want to check on that. But some of us seniors have limited income and are already paying out of pocket for APAP equipment that the DME won't handle, as well as paying large insurance premiums. Getting the software from your site has literally been a lifesaver, in that it's contributing significantly to my APAP therapy. And contributing to my satisfaction as a Respironics customer. A win-win for me and the manufacturer.

Your site has made a difference here for some of us, and I thank you for your effort, however in the world we live in, more prople are out for a profit, than are willing to help a cause. If this could have been handled on the QT, it would have caused less of an uproar, however there are always a few that can spoil it for all.

Thanks for what you have done to help us find the info we need to help ourselves. Jim

Amen to that, Jim. It really is a shame.

Thanks Joe, for all you've done. Don't let the voice of one disgruntled person dissuade you from your endeavors!

Well it is illegal no matter how good of a spin you try to put on it...

and for those looking for the penalties, these folks have the true scoop.

If you didn't buy a license for it, you are guilty of piracy period.

In reality the vendor (Respironics) has to inform Joe that they are aware of what he is doing and ask him to cease and desist. I would expect that this contact would include a written form with their logo on it. In all likelihood I'm sure that Johnny (from cpap.com) would also be notified of this and have to remove posts from the forum. Fact is that Joe isn't selling this which would definitely put a different spin on it if he was.

I'm with Nighthawk on this one. Joe, once you start feeling the pressure you should remove the Respironics software.

Now another problem may be with Derek's software. Respironics could ask for a licensing fee for it. Not sure about the legalities but I'm sure it is within the realm of possibility. Sorry to put another stick in the mud.

Joe,

I admire that you went to the trouble. I have accessed your site & got latest versions myself.

I am outside US & have *no* concern about hosting the files but if I do I won't publicise it but leave it to word-of-mouth by regulars here to advise folks where to find them.

I didn't go ahead & do the hosting myself because you had done such a good job & I have been a bit busy pls was having a difficult time getting Encore Pro 1.5 to install.

Cheers & thanks & if you want to drop your site - PM me & I will set the files up on my server. I can set up a web site such as ...

http://www.cpapdata.qwhs.com/

It would not be too much effort but could take a few days as other priorities get dealt with.

Cheers

DSM

#2 Since doing this post I created the website. All we need do is load the
files into the various folders.

Don't worry. I recall reading one of derek's posts last summer where he mentioned he contacted Respironics prior to releasing MyEncore. They didn't ask for a licensing fee. (Heck, they should be paying him!)

I agree. You never know when someone with a bruised ego and an axe to grind may attempt to make it his business to bring you down. In this day and age we all need to watch our backs (and have excellent internet security).

Thanks Joe and dsm. Your efforts are most appreciated.

The version of MS SQL server that EncorePro (and MyEncore) uses is not something that Microsoft charges for. It's a free download from them.

My sincerest thanks to Derek and Joe and all those others here who expend valuable resources in order to help others to have improved health and better lives. Bless you!

I am less concerned about myself than I am for this forum. I know my viewpoint is a slap at conventional thinking. Johnny and the others have worked hard to create a source for fellow xPAPians. I would not want the forum penalized for something I did.

So, Mr. Guest Internet/Copywrite police... here ya go!
