Machine trade?

Post by kaiya2465 » Wed Nov 02, 2011 5:36 am

I am wanting to trade a full-featured s8 Autoset II for a full-featured Bi-Pap. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start my search? Is this even an option? I am asking because I am not sure. Other than that I have an appt. Dec 8th again.

Thanks

Are you buying out of pocket or do you have insurance coverage? If your doctor has determined that you have "failed" CPAP therapy and need a bi-level your insurance will buy you a bi-level. At least that has been my personal experience.

Out of pocket. That is why I was trying to find out if it was legal to trade machines or not. I was told it was illegal, & also told it was legal. Don't know what the truth is.

Thanks

I don't know why it would be illegal to trade a machine in...sounds like a DME "story" like its illegal to change your pressure. Its your machine, do what you wish with it......and secondwind is a great place to go.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

No trade in program that I know of. It would be difficult even if you found one. The S8 is a discontinued model so isn't going to be worth as much in trade. BiPaps are simply more expensive even if going from same model year. Kinda like trading a Chevy for a BMW..

Will your doctor write a RX for the BiPap? If so, you can try to sell the S8 and use the money to purchase the BiPap.
Secondwindcpap.com will buy used machines but they won't pay all that much because they sell retail. They also won't buy used machines with over 2000 hours or if any odor to them.

If your doctor won't write a RX for BiPap then pretty much your only avenue is craigslist unless you happen to know someone with a BiPap. New model BiPaps on craigslist are rare. There is one continuous ad from someone who sells new. Woman I think (can't swear to it) that sells new machines and puts ads in most of the larger cities but I think she/he is out in California. Around $800 for PR S1 BiPap when she/he has them listed. Doesn't always have BiPaps listed. You also will need humidifier unless you happened to stumble across one that will work with your current humidifier and then that puts you back in the same boat needing the card reader. Did you ever get that promised card reader from DME.

Without a BiPap RX you are pretty much stuck with Craigslist as a source. Most online sellers will want specific RX for BiPap because cpap or apap RX isn't good enough.

Morning Pugsy,
Yes I did finally get the card reader from the DME. I know now why I am having so much trouble complying. I have the EPR on 3 & I am not getting the relief I need. I have the right mask now though, & know what my himidity needs sat at (yay). I am on the hunt for a GP now that is not afraid of Sleep Apnea patients & writing prescriptions for items needed. I have an appt. with a new sleep doc, but it's gong to put me on the road for 16 hrs total, if it don't snow that is. Hope all is going well for you.

Thanks
