Do I need a humidifier?

Post by Xdesign » Mon Oct 31, 2011 10:57 pm

Hello all. Newly diagnosed with apnea, I decided to go for a CPAP unit. I was recommended the Intellipap auto, however there is one debate on wether I need a humidifier or not.

Any thoughts that will help me?

Thank you in advance.

It's a comfort factor. If you need one and don't have one your not going to be happy, if you get one and don't need it, you can still be happy. A stand alone is a better choice than the built-in, it can be stored easier if you don't want to use it. Jim

Definitely good advice to get a humidifier. I have found I don't need it most of the time, but for those occasions when I do need it I am glad that it is there! As with the rest of the CPAP it is another element that can take some getting used to, and it does require adjustment before everything is as close to perfect. But it is well worth it IMHO.

If you have the option - get a humidifier. Easier than getting one after. I found I didn't need mine in summer months, but once the air gets drier, the humidifier makes a big difference in comfort.

Cheers,
xena

It will probable cost a lot less if you buy the humidifier and the apap or cpap at the same time.

There is some information on the following humidifier product (link below). Look at the product images for information on why you may want to consider a humidifier.

I didn't know how much I loved my humidifier until it broke and I didn't have it. Big hearts on humidity.

I have been off and on with my humidifier in the past. I went more than a year without completely and very rarely take with me when I travel. Based on my experience I found I was much more dry and conjested when I didn't use. Having said that I live in a relatively dry climate which obviously has a big impact.

For me based on my experience, I wouldn't consider owning a system that I didn't at least have the option of using a humidifier on any given night.

the choice is ultimately yours.

Get the humidifier. If you don't need it, you don't have to use it.

I'll recommend the ResMed S9 AutoSet or Philips Respironics System One Auto CPAP machine for several reasons.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I live in Greece, so the climate is warm generally speaking. The dealer suggests than I use the Intellipap without one and add it later if I think I need it. This is what I think I will do. And if I do need one, I'll order it from the states. Everything is so much more expensive here compared to US....

Would you recommend the IntelliPAP humidifier or a stand alone?

Stand alone, and a Full Facemask to control mouthbreathing. Jim
