Altitude

Post by LabKnit » Sun Oct 30, 2011 10:36 am

Hello,

I've been using a resmed s9 4 months now & it has totally changed my life. I never want to be w/o it again & This is why I'm writing today. Went to visit family in Denver last week (from Tx) & when I returned last night my machine kept giving me a "motor error". Had to sleep w/o it & I'm miserable - cannot do that again tonight! Do you suppose the altitude messed it up? Worked just fine the week that I was there. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Thanks,
Sleepless in Dallas

It's a machine and stuff just happens to machines. Altitude won't mess up the motor but perhaps something happen in transit or when setting the machine up. Any chance water got into the machine from the humidifier?

It is also possible that it is just a coincidence. No way for anyone to tell you how to fix it because we have no idea what happened to it. Maybe nothing was done to it to cause the malfunction and maybe an electronic part just failed.

You need to contact the supplier of the machine. It will still be under warranty.

Thx for responding. I haven't even used the humidifier part yet & I packed in my carry on bag & was very careful with it. I have out a call into the provider, but still haven't heard back from them. Was just hoping someone here had the same experience & could give me some guidance.

I haven't seen anyone posting with similar situation.
I will assume that you have already checked any power connections. Probably just a coincidence and it likely would have happened anyway.

Of course Murphy's law means it always happens on a weekend when everyone is closed. Hopefully someone is on call and can help you today.

Altitude most definitely shouldn't have anything to do with it, there are many of us in Denver and up higher in the mountains with CPAP. As was said, it could be anything. Hope it works for you tonite!
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Thanks everyone! I tried calling ResMed, my DME, Doc, sis-n-law who's an RT. No one responded & sis couldn't help. It really sucks to sleep another night w/o it, but you can bet I will be on their doorstep bright & early in the morning. I really thought someone would be on call today & save me from another restless night.

Have you tried unplugging it and letting it reboot?

Though this won't help you now, you may need to get a back up machine rather quickly. Your resmed machine should still be under warranty. Take it to your DME and don't leave without a satisfactory answer. I would fight for a new one or make sure your DME gives you a loaner until the issue is resolved. Make sure the issue is resolved to your satisfaction.

I don't know about Resmed, but with my 18 month old PRS-1, the manufacturer replaced it with a brand new machine and the DME provided a like new loaner for the time frame the manufacturer needed to make a decision.

We live at 7000+ ft, and the pap machine works fine. I've often wondered, however, if maybe I require a higher pressure than I would at a lower elevation.
