How can I download the version 1.5 from thr Respironics website if they require a Company ID and a password?

It seems that v1.5 is no longer available for free for the respironics site.

Try the link below; it seems to still work.

Then click on [Software Home], which will take you to the Respironics Software Update Center without having to log on.

It asks for a login password when you click on "download" ... I still wonder if they ever intended to allow unrestricted download... probably someone's mistake.

Maybe we should send 'em the results of our unofficial poll showing how well their products have been selling among new cpaptalk contributors in the months after they made the software freely available. If it reached anybody with half a brain there, they might want to reconsider. (Their business is selling hardware after all. Software is like firmware - just there to help sell the product.)

OR......you can buy it from CPAP.COM like some of the rest of us did and be "legal".

I felt it was well worth the money to be able to monitor my therapy when I bought it......and still do.

Maybe they took it down because you can change your prescription pressures with the software. CPAPs are a prescription device you know.

There is an alternate source to get the 1.5v for free. It has been made available to us by Joe_0206 in a zip file:

So is insulin. My 12 year old daughter can change her dosage based on her blood glucose. Never has to go to a DME or a doctor to do it. Are you implying a CPAP user doesn't have that same right?

The DMEs would love us to believe pressure adjustment is an exact science based on complicated data analysis. The DMEs would love us not to have the ability to control our own CPAP therapy.

Yes, CPAPs and insulin require a prescription. Yes, the proper dosage (pressure) can be adjusted by the user. Perfectly legitimate, perfectly legal.

Why don't you post with your real account or does posting how to illegally download copyright protected software scare you (it should)?

Not to be contentious here . . ., OK, maybe a little, but . . .
I seem to recall that everyone here is in violation of the software licensing terms they agreed to when they installed Encore Pro, which states that the software is for use only by medical professionals! Judging from posts in this forum, not too many here fit that description.

So, does this mean software police are going to swoop down on all of us? I think that about as likely as my getting a ticket today for not coming to an absolute complete stop at a stop sign.

In reality, Respironics freely gave the software away on their website for a period of months, long after they'd been notified of the problem. A suitable analogy might be a store with a broken soft drink machine that gives away free soft drinks. The store owner knows it's broken but fixing it is not his highest priority. He kinda likes the fact that customers come into his store to get a soft drink because they usually buy other stuff, plus they come to his store rather than the one next door because they're thirsty and know they can get a free soft drink.

In other words, I think Respironics still likes us and still wants us as customers. I could be wrong I suppose. They could be a bunch of snotty nose legal IP addicts . . ., but I doubt it.

My two cents -- the big DME's (including big online DME stores) are the REAL customers of the CPAP manufacturers. The manufacturers couldn't care less what message board posters do or say. We're a drop in the bucket in their sales, compared to the Aprias of the world. We're just gnats buzzing around as far as the manufacturers are concerned.

However, if gnats begin to annoy a big DME and the big DME yells at a CPAP manufacturer, the mfgr will try to make the big DME happy.
