Dizzy, I'ts hard to say how long it would take for massage therapy to work, if that is the problem, At say, two treatments a week, it could take a few weeks. But there are things you can do to help your self along, like relaxation, heat, and a muscle relaxant. However, it's best not to use a muscle relaxant just before you sleep, as it may make your apnea worse by letting the neck muscles become too flacid. It may even help to become more relaxed with your interface, so that you are not tensing up resisting it.

[quote="Linda3032"]If i have my humidifier set on 2, I will get a plugged up ear and dizzyness - I've have sinus problems all my life and have to be careful. Perhaps it's as simple as lowering the setting on your humidifier.

Hope you get better.

[quote="Snoredog"]inner ear problems such as ear/sinus infections are the most likely cause or are you taking any medications for hypertension like DiovanHCT? If you just started on cpap, the pressure can force bacteria backwards up into the middle ear via the Eustachian tubes, your doctor should be able to quickly diagnose this.

As for any hypertension medication, depending on the type, it can cause you to become quickly dehydrated and also deplete potassium levels as well as carry adverse side effects like vertigo, drinking more water and taking a supplement potassium may help. If the medication is the cause, you may also notice vertigo when going from a sitting to a standing position, the reason is the large muscles in the legs take lots of blood to lift the body, this can rob blood supply to the brain and vertigo is the result.

Snoredog,
Appreciate your comments. I think you are right about the cpap forcing bacterial into the middle ear. I went to the ENT to see if she could diagnose this...but she didn't think it was related. Is there something she should be looking for or how can they determine this? She just figured it was from a lingering ear infection (even though I didn't have one)

I don't take any medications right now...but I will take your advice about drinking more water and look into potassium.

Thanks!!

[quote="tlc95066"]I have had vertigo on and of for about 20 years. The worst bout was when I had it for 6 months straight. I have only been on my APAP since 4/05 so mine is not related to the therapy.

Idid seek treatment from and ENT and was eventually seen by a audiologist. He specialized in hearing but also vertigo related issues. He told me that everyone has "crytals" (for lack of a better word) in the viscus material in your inner ear. These small crystals and viscus material are very associated with your equalibrium. Some of us are just more prone to vertigo than others.

My doctor prescribe valium the first time, because it helps "cushion" the inner ear. It actually worked pretty well, and he was an old fashion GP. The ENT wanted me to try some other med's but I dont remember what they were.

Because mine comes and goes I have just accepted it. The one thing that really sets it off is being in an airplane and going around a clover leaf in a car of I am not driving. Anyway, the one thing that has helpped is to remember not to move my head around too quickly.

Teri,
Wow - I really feel for you! 20 years of vertigo???? That must be terrible. I've had it off and on for a few weeks and it really bothers me. Don't feel that it is safe to drive and just walking around seems unstable. I feel like a cry baby since most people at work don't have it...they think you're making it up. As for airplanes, I find them almost intolerable due to the ear aches I get during take off and landing. Yes...moving the head quickly is a definite way to cause the effect.

I did find what you mentioned about the "crystals"...this is what I think I have going on. Don't like to self diagnose but ENT wasn't very helpful. I am going to try another doctor.

Thank you and good luck to you!

It suggested to hold a penny in your hand when you got up from bed or chair. I have tried it and it works for me. My son-in-law said wearing copper bracelet would probably do the same thing. I didn't think I could loose anything by trying. Doctor said I would have to live with it after he did all the checking he could think of.
Mom8,
Definitely worth a try!! I will give it a whirl tomorrow morning when I get out of bed. Hope it works!!

Linda,

I actually just bought the humidifier but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I started getting the vertigo and then stopped the cpap treatment. I guess when I get braver I will set my humidifier to 1. Thanks!!

Gidgie,

It will give me a good reason to get a couple of massages. I've always wanted to get one but they are so expensive. Now the vertigo will "force" me to treat myself. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks!!
