2 month visit

Post by Ineedanap » Thu Oct 20, 2011 6:28 pm

I went for my first visit after getting the machine yesterday. Apparently not a lot of people adjust as well as I did, and I have all of you to thank. My PA was beside herself with glee at my compliance (100%) and low AHI (1.4 from 45) and was halfway done explaining what all the data meant when I told her I have the program at home. I think I burst her bubble.
I had a FP mask that I couldn't use because it would just blow air out the sides, the DME at the Drs office showed me how it should look and I about near died of embarrassment because I had been doing it completely wrong. I had called the DME at the office 5 times over 3 weeks about it but my calls were never returned. I finally gave up and figured I would just have to take pleasure in tattling on the idiot. Apparently they will be restoring the balance of my 30 day warranty but the first night with the FP mask was a good one. I may not need to try anything else for the time being. Stats from last night look the same as the stats from the ill fitting Quatro but no deep dents in my face from ratcheting it down too tight to stop the leaks. The FP flexi fits come with 3 different sized inserts and strangely while there is nothing small about me, its the small that gives the least leaks. The only problem is, well, its small. Its really nice to know I have the chance to try something else if this doesn't work out.
The thing I really wanted to mention, I asked for a copy of my prescription, you need it to sign up here to try new masks, or should I decide to buy one from here. The woman who made me the copy was very hesitant. She warned me sternly that all masks MUST be fitted by a licensed DME in order to work properly. She was very concerned. I found it amusing since I was barely fitted for the first mask, and the second was mailed to me by the disappearing DME. I think the office may be worried by all the choices springing up for our supplies but haven't actually made changes to make themselves more consumer friendly or realized that sometimes, patients actually can handle being active in their own care.
I never would have made it without this forum.

Oh, that is all it takes to get a perfect mask fit....guaranteed...yeah right.. I won't hold my breath.
The whoppers we are told continually amaze me. That one should go on my "whoppers I have been told" thread. I have not heard that one before.

Edit.. BTW congratulations on an excellent first 2 months. You are doing wonderfully.

Yeah, like the DME who gave you the F&P mask and NEVER showed you how to use it???

Most people ARE idiots, but they never seem to know what to do with someone like you who actually has brains.
