Tried out the Softgel Nasal Mask

Post by jilliansue » Mon Oct 17, 2011 12:12 pm

Hi, everyone!

I signed up with the lending library at sleep nation tv, and was able to try out the Resmed Softgel nasal mask. I have been using Respironics Comfortgel mask, and I had read with interest the product challenge results between the two on this site. All I can say is, wow! I really do like the Softgel better than the Comfortgel. To start with, the part that goes over the nose is smaller, the gel cushion is deeper, and the dial adjustment at the forehead helped me to get the right balance between pressure on the nose and pressure on the upper teeth. It also seemed more stable and I did less tugging during the night. Initial stats on the machine screen were typical of those obtained with the Comfortgel. All in all, a great first night with a new mask.

I'm gonna have to git me one of them!!

I really appreciate this list and the huge amount of extremely useful information that is on here.

Thank you!
Jillian

I've been using the softgel for over a year and love it (if you can love a mask). I've tried several others including the comfortgel and can't find anything that I like better. Good luck.

I have a few unused ResMed Softgel cushions, size medium. If you will PM me, I will send them to those in need, for the cost of shipping. If you already have a Activa LT size medium mask, it will fit it.

It's my 2 year CPAP Birthday today, and that's a good way to celebrate.

Currently, my IPAP is set at 14.0 and my EPAP at 11.4. At some point, I plan to tweak them some more. My orig. prescription was, I think, 18 and 14, and got reduced from there a bit. But the 14.0 and 11.4 are the result of my tinkering.

Last night, my AHI was 7.0, somewhat higher than usual, although by no means unheard of! In the wee hours of the morning, it felt like the headgear was sliding up on my head somewhat. I can't use the velcro fix on a borrowed mask, but maybe I can try to anchor it below my chinstrap's headstrap or something like that.

I think the Softgel is the most comfortable mask I've used. I started out with Swift FX and really liked how little there was on my face, but after awhile, the air blowing directly into my nostrils annoyed me somewhat and that is when I tried the Comfort Gel. But, the Softgel, it is almost a pleasure to wear !

Ozze-dollar, I just checked the postage--1st class to Australia is about $10. If you're willing to pay the shipping, I'm willing to ship it. PM if you're interested.

All SoftGel cushions have a good home now.

Im using the Resmed gel nasal mask and cant get away with it.

Still leaking on the bridge of the nose unless I tighten the dial so much the next morning my nose is sore. Also, it seems very harsh on the top lip which comes into contact with my teeth.

Marky,
Sounds like you have every thing adjusted too tight. If you have to torque down on the headgear then something is not right. The nose bridge angle seems to be the key for a comfortable fit. My frame is an Activa but the cushion is a softgel. Wish you luck.
