post part 2 seeing 'control data'

Post by Alathea_Squared » Sun Oct 16, 2011 11:36 am

SO, since I have an autopap machine that self adjusts, is there anyway to get it to chart me as a 'control' without therapy, but still using the software onboard, or do I just have to compare to my sleep study and be confident in that its doing its job?

Im a data geek at work, so knowing the machine can chart my therapy is really cool, but id like to see the difference now that I have the machine here.

Is there a way to get the machine to chart events without applying therapy, even for 1 night?

No. The machine must be on to have the sensors working and the lowest pressure available is 4 cm straight cpap. There is some therapy value even at 4 cm. Though you could get sort of an idea how bad things might be at 4 cm. It would not be exact though.

Thanks. Ill give it some thought. It just seems so weird that I would have been 'every 30 seconds for about an hour' at my sleep study, but now after 4 days Im at 1 event for about 10 seconds.

I probably SHOULD be happy that it's doing it's job.

Yeah, you SHOULD be happy. Very few are that fortunate. Obviously your sleep tech did a great job during your titration study and hit your pressure "sweet spot" right on the head. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Relax, enjoy and be grateful. Murphy is often lurking around the corner.

I went from an AHI of 35 in my sleep study to less than 1 my first night on the CPAP, so dramatic improvements can occur. I'm guessing there are great differences among patients when it comes to how heavily the airway closes during an apnea. Apparently some of us close 'softly' so it takes only a low pressure to easily hold it open, thus the great improvement without high pressure. I run my CPAP at 9.0. Lately I've got it in APAP mode with a range of 8.4 to 12.

I got the prelim results from VA today, but not the actual study. It says i was titrated at 7cmwp, but achieved no REM at this pressure. Apnea severe at points. avoid etoh/sedatives/narcotics.

Well, that sucks-im on narcs for nerve/lumber discogenic pain. It's chronic and not going away. What does that titration mean, if anything?
