My Stuff

Post by sleepyred » Fri Feb 24, 2006 8:18 am

I use a mirage activa nasal mask.
Breeze nasal pillows
Resmed lightweight 7 with humifidier
chin strap to keep my big mouth shut
hose cover
soon to be a heated hose owner

A good question also is:
What did your DME plop in your lap and what did you purchase or get when you were eligible to get more supplies?

I just got my breeze, hose cover, and heated hose (my choice)
Everything else was just brought to me when I was a newbie and had not found this WONDERFUl site with so many helpful and knowledable people!

If I'd known what I know now, who knows!

The DME gave me ye'ol standard Resmed S6 (I think). Once I learned more I purshed my own. An Auto RemStar w/Cflex & card reader well worth the money. Now the Resmed sits in the closet if ever I need it.

With 222 views and 3 replies, I doubt any significant info with this type of question.

It fails to add anything of value in any event.
Why not ask boxers of briefs?

Hmmmmm - boxers or briefs? How 'bout it ladies?

Just trying to add some humor on a very rainy day in the south! And after just paying the plumber $800 for a problem not yet fixed! Well, at least I had a good night's sleep!

tomjax has a very valid point. There are currently 3927 registered members at cpaptalk capable of responding to this informal survey, and only 46 have told us what type of machine they use. So clearly the poll really isn't providing any statistically significant data. It's interesting that so few people have weighed in. Maybe the same 46 people are doing all the posting and everyone else just lurks and moves on?

Poll

Post by sleepyred » Sun Feb 26, 2006 7:20 am

Good point - when I'm busy with work, sometimes I only have time to read a limited number of posts.

I do think polls are interesting and at least try to put my two cents worth in.

But all in all, I'd probably be considered a lurker! I just had some surgery and have had more time than usual on my computer, but I will try to be better!

You all are so very responsive and helpful to my questions. I guess feel still like a newbie and don't have the experience!

There are just a few ways to account for this.
1) Possibly only a few folks are interested in the poll.
2) The number of members checking posts at any given time is very small.
3) Members are checking posts but not logging in.

Of these, point 2 is a verifiable fact. It's not unusual to find zero members are logged in at any particular time. Only at peak times are as many as a half-dozen or more members logged in.

Now, of those posting, many, perhaps even most, are relatively new like me. This strikes me as entirely normal for a support forum. Interest is greatest when one is actively working to resolve important issues. Since this forum has been around several years and since, it seems to me at least, that most current posters have been here for less than 2 months, I presume that most of the 3927 members probably have little interest in this forum any more. (One can hope that they have resolved their apnea issues successfully.)

Not so fast. The underlying premises appear flawed. Many posts get less than 50 views and most get less than 100 views. It seems to me that the only posts getting more than 100 views are the continuing dialogue types where folks keep coming back numerous times to check for updates on the discussion. Just ten or fifteen folks interested in a particular topic could easily generate a view count of 100 or more.

I see the view count on this poll as 371 this morning. Of the 49 most recent postings, only six have a higher view count. That suggests to me that there is, in fact, considerable interest in the poll.

I'm also inclined to believe that the poll results are revealing, taken in the context of it reflecting the equipment of new participants to this forum. In the past week or so I suggested that the Respironics give-away of Encore Pro, version 1.5, might have resulted in larger sales of their machines, to folks participating in this forum, compared to their competitors. There's not much chance of us verifying that claim of course, but isn't it interesting that this poll reflects such an overwhelming number of Respironics machines compared to the other brands. I doubt that there's enough difference in availability, performance, quality, software monitoring capability, or price to account for the heavy Respironics bias.

I'd just like to thank those who have participated in the poll and hope the results have been as interesting to you as they have been to me.

Regards,
Bill

Bill,

I just made it an even 50 votes. Actually, I just noticed this poll this morning.
Haven't been able to spend a lot of time here in the last few days.
I think that Respironics definitely has a lop-sided number advantage in XPAP product sales (and not just the users on this forum).
I personally feel that ALL XPAP machines should have sleep data recording capabilities and that they should ALL come with user-friendly software to monitor one's own therapy. I think the DMEs, RTs and sleep docs who use software like Encore Pro are few and far between. Besides, it's the XPAP user who is ultimately responsible for the success or failure of his/her therapy.

Best wishes,

Den

Good point. It makes sense most current postings are from rookies trying to make their way through the sea of all things CPAP. Then there is the experienced veteran camp of rested gal, ozij, WillSucceed and the like, providing invaluable, intelligent, thoughtful information and suggestions.

Like sleepyred pointed out, not many full-time employed working people have as much time to spend on the computer as others who aren't. All in all, kind of what one would expect.
