That email domain is associated with a number of Facebook scams... according to the Facecrooks website. One of the latest is scam promising you can win an iPad that Apple is giving away in remembrance of Steve Jobs. So....it isn't Facebook generated at all...just a scam of which there are many.

Activity and membership means bucks on websites, the more the clicks, the more the bucks. I have no problem with that, it's when they try to fake it to make it that they've crossed the line.

This one looks very official and professional with the FB logo and the typical FB buttons. It has an unsubscribe button which leads to the real FB site.

By coincidence, I received another one of those "FB" emails just this afternoon. It was from update@facebook and delivered to an addy of mine that is not associated with FB.

There are several possibilities here.

1) I believe Facebook is the work of the devil, metaphorically speaking, I'm no facebook apologist. However, I suspect this isn't outright "hacking" on Facebook's part.

2) There are TONS of computer criminals out there. I won't dignify them by calling them "hackers" or "spammers." They've gotten very good at making e-mail that looks like it comes from "legitimate" sources, but hiding some sort of malware in it.

3) On the "legitimate" facebook site, I understand that there's an "invite friends" function that has you give facebook your password to other e-mail accounts and lets it send invites to everyone in your address book. This is not "computer hacking" on facebook's part because it tells you what it's going to do. Apparently, a lot of people don't understand how STOOPID!!! it is to give anyone else your e-mail password, so they do it.

I'm amazed at the stuff people are willing to put on facebook. People are getting rejected for jobs because their prospective employers cyberstalk them on facebook and find something that casts the poster in a bad light. People post things on facebook that will tell criminals that they will be out of town and their house will be empty. Criminals have posted things on facebook that led to their own arrests.

People, be careful on the internet. Bad people are watching.

During the summer, my pastor (who's and "old guy", like me) mentioned that he had just become interested in FB, as a way to keep in touch with friends. I said "I hope you realize that FB is The Devil!"
he just rolled his eyes, and walked away.

It is very likely the request did not come directly from FB. It may have been a phishing email. These types of email make it appear they are from someone else, hoping you will provide them with more information. Also some to FB apps/games send out things. These are not FB they are 3rd party items, that FB gets paid for putting on their site.

I can show you email that look official and professional with all logos from Bank of America, Ebay, Chase Bank, ETC These are all phishing emails. Yes FB may not be for all, BUT if you control your privacy settings, not post things you would not want others to see, etc it is no different then this site here cpaptalk.com. Google my userid (jmcanzo) and you will see what type of sites I visit. Does not matter if it FB, or what once it out on the net it is there for all to see. They only way you could avoid it is not to go on the internet at all. Even then there is still information on you. Just google your name sometime. I do not work for FB or anything like that, but the news gets a hold of something that happened on FB and all of sudden it is the end of the world! I know some people that say I would never buy online because I have to put my credit card number online, yet these same people gladly hand their credit card to the waiter/waitress that walks away with it and could be doing who know what with it. More credit/debit cards are scammed that way then putting them on legitimate sites online.
