Sleep study and update

Post by Tekcor1 » Sat Oct 08, 2011 2:54 am

I finally got a copy of my sleep study today. Thought I would post it for review and comments. Also, should there be a more in-depth report on the sleep study that I can get a copy of? I got this from the cardiologist that ordered the sleep study, not the sleep doc so if there's a better report I'll stop by the sleep doc's office to get it.

An update on my treatment. I've been using the cpap for about a week and a half now. I have taken to it pretty well. I feel like I have leaks under control and can sleep with it all night. Except for one night that I took it off and tried not to turn it off. I used a tee shirt to try and muffle the sound but ended up pulling off the nose pillows. Still didn't want to wake the wife and was frustrated so I just ditched it for the rest of the night. It's funny because now in the morning when I wake up and take it off it feels like I have to work to breathe. The machine isn't doing it for me lol.

I'm not sure that I feel any better. I never felt particularly tired during the day before. It was ordered because I was (am) having some other medical issues that they can't figure out. But I figure it sure isn't hurting me and I can now sleep fairly well with it so I'm continuing treatment.

Some of you may recall that I was supposed to be trading my S9 Escape for the S9 Autoset this week. I called on Thursday because the DME was supposed to call when it came in and I hadn't heard from them yet (they said they were ordering it the previous Monday - 10 days earlier). I inquired of it was in yet and was told that "the head office hasn't approved it yet and they have to approve it before it can be ordered". I then asked to speak to the manager, who was conveniently out of the office through the weekend. I asked the lady I was talking to to relay a message to the manager and said that if the Autoset was no in sometime very soon I would be simply returning the cpap and going through a different DME.

I'm pretty frustrated because I have no idea if my treatment is actually working or not. When I spoke to the DME a week and a half ago they made it sound like it was going to be no problem to exchange it. Of course you all warned me about them but I really thought that since I went in prepared I had won that one. Apparently they have other plans.

My plan on Monday is to call another DME and see if they will supply an S9 Autoset. If they will I will return the Escape and get it from them.

Now on to the report:

Contact the sleep center and ask forthe "full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs" for both studies. That will give you all the data pertaining to your sleep stages, positions, oximetry, type of apneas...
While you are at it get a copy of your prescription if you don't already have it. They like to fax them straight to DMEs which makes it very difficult to shop for a DME.
