Going to get a new mask, any suggestions?

Post by LowOnJuice » Fri Oct 07, 2011 10:22 am

Hey everyone, its been a while since I've posted here, but it's time to get a new mask and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what mask I should switch to or if I should just get another Mirage Activa LT. The time draws near for me to get a new CPAP machine as well, I'm using the Resmed S8 with the H4i humidifier as of right now, any suggestions in that department would be greatly appreciated as well.

I can't tell you how much this forum helped me when I first started out with my cpap, and for that, everyone here deserves my gratitude. If anyone heads up towards Western WI/ Eastern MN, let me know and we could swap sleep apnea horror stories, it would be my pleasure.

Howdy, up yonder in dairy land. I am happy with my cloth Sleepweaver mask and the frau uses one as an alternate. It's got to be the most comfortable mask to wear, IMHO. How is it you're looking for a new xPAP after only a year or two?
Speaking of dairy land, my in-laws live west of Winona, and sister-in-law is a Mayo nurse. Nice country, if a bit on the cold side (I'm in Texas).

LowOnJuice, if you are happy with your present mask I would not mess with success. I have seen very few posts from anyone unhappy with their S9 AUTOsets, if you prefer to stray with ResMed. It sounds as though you've been on therapy for awhile so I'm sure you know what features you want in a new machine. Good luck, keep us posted.

Hey Lowonjuice,
How's it going? I'm from western Minnesota originally. Living down south now though. My brothers tease me...telling me that the cold keeps the riff raff out. Well that's me...riff raff.

Glad to hear your success with treatment. I'm quite new and since my DME is locked in with Respironics, those are all the masks I've tried. I found that the new ComfortGel with the custom gel (boil it and fit it) didn't work so great for me. Very tricky and mine came out all crooked. So I vote no for that one.

The Respironics EasyLife has a double "hovercraft" type seal and really floats nicely on the face with little strap tightening. Works great unless you're a side sleeper. Then it's too easy to dislodge causing leaks.

My only other experience was with a full face which you don't use. I forced my DME to order me an Ultra Mirage. Heard many people liked that one, but I haven't received it yet.
Take care,
Jamis

Does your mask leak? Any suggestions for using it? I am getting one next week. Thanks.

Resmed Quattro FX for Full face, or Mirage FX for nasal mask. Respironics came out with a new True Blue that integrates the best of the Easylife with better headgear.

ems, I've used the Sleepweaver a little over 2 months, and the main issue I've had is that after afout 4am, things start leaking. May be my face/mouth, the mask but not sure.
I do know it doesn't seal as well if I'm on my back, or sitting up watching a video. Seems to prefer being on either side; and I have become used to adjusting my cheek against the pillow to tweak the seal. (I got a CPAP pillow for the frau while she was using FFM, but I don't seem to need even that.) Most folks who comment on the cloth mask like it; a few have some challenge with sealing it. I think I'm doing very well for the short time I've been CPAP'ng. Good luck with your new mask!

If you are interested in trying nasal pillow, I like the swift FX an LT. Both are really light. There are lots of comparisons on the forum.
