I am still tired all the time.
I am still tired all the time.
I have been using my CPAP for exactly 2 weeks now, and while I do feel better in the mornings, I am still tired all the time. Is this normal? How long will it take for me to gain some energy?
Re: I am still tired all the time.
Yes it is normal. Even if therapy is 100% optimal and zero problems sometimes it takes a long, long time to see much improvement as it comes on so gradual.
It takes as long as it takes. There is no magic timeline.

Re: I am still tired all the time.
I've been at this a year, and I still get tired mid-afternoons.
Lately I have noticed I'm not so zombie-like in the mornings - still tired on waking, but my brain seems to function much better sooner after waking.
If you've had OSA for a long time (and who knows how long each of us has been suffering?), then it's not going to be cured in one night... or even several nights.... on XPAP.
For a lucky few, their first night on XPAP yields magnificent results - but they are small in number from what I've seen here.
Hang in there - even if you don't 'feel' fabulous, know that you are improving your health every night you are compliant.
Cheers,
xena

Aside from my sleep study, I've used the CPAP twice. So far, I'm feeling groggy and falling asleep on the couch. I'm getting plenty of sleep. Is there some sort of an adjustment period?

Re: I am still tired all the time.
Ive been at this about two months. I'm still tired every day too but, Ive noticed its a different kind of tired. Its a functional tired. I now choose to sleep instead of discovering my forehead has hit my keyboard. I am functional on Mondays now and last weekend, after a horrible night of sleep, I was still able to function the next day. This hasn't been the case in years! I wanted a miracle too and after that first Honeymoon week thought I was getting it but, it turns out they're right. It takes a long time and progress is in baby steps. Trust me, its worth it.

There can be an adjustment period. It is also possible that the therapy is not optimal. The machine in your profile offers data that can be used with software.. If you don't have the software you need to get it and let's see if there is a problem with the therapy before we start telling you to "just give it time". If pressure is not right or large leaks or not enough hours with the machine...no amount of time will help. Gotta make sure therapy is optimal first.
You have software options. Explained with examples here. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64906&st=0&sk=t&sd= ... re+options
SleepyHead is available here. http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyhead/
For Encore Pro send me a private message and I can help with it and explain its use a little more.

Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Re: I am still tired all the time.
Yes of course there is. Your body has been running a marathon every night probably for years, 8.5 hours of sleep twice is not going to make a lot of difference. Sort of like when you break your leg and they put a cast on you can't expect to go running the next day. Your body has to rebuild all the damaged organs. I started feeling better after the first night, my brain was the first to start recovering but it took months to feel fully energized. Sleepiness is only ONE of the effects of OSA.mistergoat wrote:Aside from my sleep study, I've used the CPAP twice. So far, I'm feeling groggy and falling asleep on the couch. Yep. Two consecutive days. I'm a day sleeper. I work nights at the hospital.ameriken wrote:

Re: I am still tired all the time.
Before going to bed yesterday, I loosened up the straps on my mask then slept for five or six hours. After an hour or so of activity, I've been WIIIIIIIIIDE AWAKE. Of course I realize tomorrow could be another story entirely.
Re: I am still tired all the time.
I found out that after starting the CPAP that my blood pressure dropped which was causing me to be tired. Now that I have my meds adjusted, I am starting to have more energy. Not as much as I would like, but more than I have had in a long time. Hopefully it will continue to improve. Thanks everyone. It is really nice to know that I am not alone in this!
Re: I am still tired all the time.
I am 40 days into therapy and I am one of the lucky ones! They woke me after my sleep study and I felt FANTASTIC! I didn't have to have a cup of coffee (or three) before feeling human. That is my gold standard. I don't HAVE TO HAVE coffee to function. I don't fall asleep EVERY time I sit still. Do I feel good all day, every day? Nope. But I am noticing that I do more than I did before and things that used to feel overwhelming, are becoming just a part of life.

Re: I am still tired all the time.
When I first started cpap, I found myself tired at 9am, so because I had the luxury I went back to bed with the mask and took a nap. If it happened at 3pm, I put on the mask and took a nap. It lasted 2-3 weeks. I think my body, finally being able to sleep, wanted more. So feed it when you can.Missele wrote:I have been using my CPAP for exactly 2 weeks now, and while I do feel better in the mornings, I am still tired all the time. Is this normal? Are you new to cpap therapy? Your profile shows a machine that has been discontinued for several years.
Take a look at the link to my machine in my profile and see if yours visually looks like mine and then look at the link in your profile.
If you are new to therapy you probably have a PR System One Remstar.....machine of some model.
If it says Remstar Plus with CFlex+ it only offers compliance hours of usage to satisfy insurance requirements.
If you have the PR S1 Remstar Pro with CFlex+ or the Auto CPAP with AFlex.... you have full data machine
and then software choices..explained here..viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64906&st=0&sk=t&sd= ... re+options
S9 ResMed users with full data machine also have a different software available.
SleepyHead will work with the S9 and PR S1 machines.
