Need Guidance
Hello all,
I have been using CPAP (fixed pressure 12cm H2O) since 2003 with great success.
I decided to upgrade to an Auto CPAP. I like the idea that if my pressure needs change, the machine will adjust. I set the new machine (Devilbiss DV54) in the range of 4 to 14. After the first night, I decided the 4 starting pressure was too low, so i changed the range to 9 / 14. After 4 nights, I am feeling the old fatigue of pre-CPAP days returning.
I can always go back to a fixed pressure, but would like to be able to use the Auto mode.
The smart codes for the 4 nights are
FL5F-FEF-M3YJ
FE2F-FA3-J6Y4
F7HF-F7F-F3Y6
F41F-D4F-KFY3
If someone can point me in the right direction, it will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tommy

Re: Need Guidance
Tommy,
I only have a straight CPAP....but I've heard others say when the pressure adjusts with an APAP...it can wake them...disturbing their sleep. This may be what's going on with you? Just a thought. I'm sure those with APAPS will chime in...

Re: Need Guidance
If you're used to a constant 12... I'd go back to somewhat closer to that 12... try bumping it up higher.

Re: Need Guidance
I think I would run a few nights on my old pressure and see if I got my old results with the new machine. Then experiment.

Re: Need Guidance
I used the Smart Code generate report feature at the cpap.com page for the Devilbiss machine.
AHI 8
Average pressure 11.5
You can check them yourself there. Just copy the codes into the little box and then generate a report.
I suspected the AHI would be a bit high from what you are feeling. The minimum is not high enough to prevent the events. I would use 11 minimum if it were me.
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/devil ... tflex.html
this link to the product and then use the feature just above the product description to see all of the data that it reports.
You can do more than one if you wish.
Scroll down the report after it is generated for definitions of what it is reporting.

Re: Need Guidance
My thoughts are similar to Liz's... I would put it in CPAP mode (I'm not familiar with the unit, but I would think you could set the max and the min the same) and see if you can replicate your old results... then go from there.
Have you run the smart codes online to generate the report? You know you can go to https://www.intellipap.com/default.aspx and run your codes though their report engine. Very cool if you ask me. I want one!
I ran a few of them and it looks like you AHI is above 5 in the ones I ran. One I think was closer to 8.

Re: Need Guidance
Thanks for the responses.
I'll set the min to 11 and see how I do tonight.
I really appreciate the help.

Re: Need Guidance - IntelliPAP "While Breathing Hour"
OK. I set the lower limit to 11 last night and feel much better today.
AHI 4.0
Thanks to all who offered help. What a great resource this community is!
One thing I don't understand. The "While Breathing Hours" metric.
The last 5 days mine were:
8.7
1.8
0.9
2.4
2.1
The only explanation I have found so far:
While Breathing Hours
While breathing hours are only available within the last-day timeframe and with the cumulative code. This measurement shows the total hours of use.
Can someone help me understand what this means?
Thanks.
Tommy

Re: Need Guidance
Sorry, I don't use your machine so other than the basics I am not much help. Other than the "total hours of use" that it mentions, I have no idea as to any further meaning.
Forum member Emelia has a good working knowledge of the Intellipap since she uses it. If she doesn't see your post either add "Intellipap" to your Subject line to get her attention or send her a private message. She will be glad to help.
