itchy face!!!

Post by Tim1956 » Sun Oct 02, 2011 1:24 pm

How do you deal with the itchy face problem. I try and outlast it till I fall asleep but it is a problem. I'm using a full face mask, tried two different kinds plus a nasal mask. Every time I put them on I get the itchy face. I tried the nasal pillow but my numbers almost tripled and I felt like crap the next morning. I've used Seebreeze to clean my face and that feels good but I still keep wanting to scratch. Any help. I listed my equipment and it doesn't show up I guess

I was plagued w/ itchiness - and - I can't tolerate nasal pillow masks because of my repeated sinus surgeries. I just switched to a sleepweaver 3 weeks ago and can wear it all night long w/ no itchiness. I think for me, the plastic holds in moisture and I need quite a bit of humidity because of my sinuses, so it's damp. I don't think I'm reacting to the silicone. Anyway, I have no rainout in the sleepweaver and no itchiness. I don't even feel dampness. The only issue is that it's a little leakier so I initially have to fuss w/ it a bit.

Unless you have extremely oily skin you may want to ditch the sea breeze, try something that is ph balanced, non drying like neutrogena facial cleanser or cetaphil cleanser. Kathy

I have a similar problem with my Quattro. I unhook the right side clip..scratch my face and then reconnect the right side clip. Usually I can get a good seal again.

Have you tried mask liners? Our member Padacheek has a nice line of liners and strap covers for people with sensitive skin.

I use the same Mirage Quattro mask. I have been on CPAP for about 37 days now if I count right.

Anyway, I always woke up itchy several times a night until I lowered the humidity level on my machine. The itching stopped instantly!!

Before CPAP, I woke every morning with totally dry mouth. I mean tongue stuck and all. So when I started CPAP I used the auto humidity setting of 80%. I was using almost a full tank of water a night!! I was waking with nice moist mouth so I thought things were going great.

About 10 days ago I switched to manual setting on humidity and my AHI dropped like a rock!!! The itching stopped too!! A couple nights later, I turned the humidity down to the 2.5 setting and that is where it is now. I don't have nearly as much itching as before plus I am getting better results from the CPAP!! For what its worth, , , , I only use a quarter tank of water a night now.

Try playing with your humidity level, , , it helped me.
