How do Respironics Sync for date & time?

Post by strobotach » Tue Feb 21, 2006 4:11 pm

Just wondering how Respironics synchronize the time & date functions...??
Sure, they have an internal real time clock, but how does that get updated?
Thanks

It can only be updated at the factory.

And that is one of the few things I really, really don't like about my auto. That and the stupid 'smart card' instead of some industry standard media.

Ok! I know the smart card is a standard, just not a common one.

The Remstars (those equipped with slot, excluding the plus) get the date/time settings from the SmartCard. There are many types of these SmartCards available, some only contain memory, others contain memory, EEPROM, microprocessor, clock chip etc. The type the Remstars use includes memory, microprocessor and CLOCK chip. The Plus machine doesn't have recording ability so it doesn't have the SmartCard slot.

When the SmartCard is initialized (memory formatted) and Setup properly via EncorePro software it will obtain the current date/time from the computer that Setup the card (see the SmartCard Utilities on the left in the EncorePro menu).

If the memory or time get corrupted on the smartcard it will present an error on the LCD. Instead of replacing the card, one should try erasing and setting up the card again first.

There is a reason they call them "Smart" cards.

To set the record straight.......

The date and time are set in the machines at the factory to GMT. When you download the data from the card, Encore Pro converts the date, time and timezone to what is set in your computer. If there is a discrepancy, and it is not in your computer date, it has to be sent back to the factory to be reset.

I finally got my REmstar Auto machine sent back as defective for not having the right day, which I was able to work around, but it was driving the sleep doc bonkers being stuck in the last millenium. The DME could NOT reset the calendar without sending it back to the factory.

The nice thing was I ended up getting a new machine which was much much MUCH quieter than the previous one, which was my ACTUAL complaint about the previous machine, and they told me that was NOT a defect and would not do anything about the noise problem.

So the date problem is good leverage to get REAL problems fixed in the machine.

Its a funny world

I glad with all the cost cutting methods some manufactures do these days you made it work to your advantage. I can reset everything on my ResMed machine including the date and time except for the total run time hours. Good luck on your brand new quieter machine!
