Please tell me I'm wrong, but...

Post by HP » Wed Feb 22, 2006 5:33 pm

It appears that Respironics has taken down the link to download Encore Pro-v1.5.
And it appears that the other versions are just upgrades to old versions.
Would someone please go there, find it, and tell me I'm wrong?
Sorry for my confusion.

You can still get it from Joe_0206 from his zip files. Once you're on his site look for:EncorePro XP2000_v15i.zip

The following files are located on my website. My website will end in April 2006. If there is enough demand, I will move the files to my new address at that time.

Except for PDF files, files are zipped to make downloading easier. The ZIP file contains an EXE file by the same name. There is nothing fancy on this page, just the files. You will need to RIGHT CLICK and SAVE AS to download the file from this link: http://www.joelogan.net/cpap/

Anyone that hasn't got the Encore Pro 1.5 best get it now while you can.

Or you can also get it from cpap.com for $99, the way we all knew it would soon be.

It sure took a long time for their IT dept to secure their site. They must be overworking them.

. . . which brings up the question of upgrades to 1.5. Will the upgrades be available for those using the free version? I expect so, but who really knows.

I can imagine all sorts of scenarios where a minor upgrade might be desirable, say if a Windows update suddenly disables Encore Pro, or MSSQL.

Bill

No kidding. Our own biggziff sent them an email back in November to let them know it was available to download for free from their website because he figured it was a mistake on their part and they'd want to remove it. They never responded. Makes you wonder why they suddenly care.
Thank goodness the upgrades are always free. Or will that soon be a thing of the past as well?

Nah . . ., Fact is, Respironics probably didn't care. It's hard to believe that no one at Respironics knew about the software being freely available. They're in the business of providing hardware. Truth is, I'll just bet they made money by giving the software away. I'd bet they sold quite a few more Respironics machines over the past few months while the upgrade has been freely available than they would have otherwise. Just look at the number of folks posting here about it. How many new members have been posting lately talking about other manufacturers machines they've just bought?

All just my opinion, of course.

Bill

yeah, but when you think about it, this place is just a drop in the bucket of CPAP-users worldwide. and of the 3800 people here, the number buying new Respironics machines is an even tinier drop. More like a drip. Can't imagine they've noticed any change in their sales. Just my opinion, though.

I'll bet it has more to do with perceived licensing, liability or regulatory issues than $$ from the sale of the S/W. Just my $.02.

This brings up a question in my mind:

"Is it "legal" for Joe_0206 to distribute proprietary software from his website?"

Good luck.

No doubt they sold many more machines by allowing the software out. My thought is that they don't sell much as the are aiming at sleep doc's and DME's. I think the IT Dept was asleep, Big Corp run slow from the dead weight at the top. I see no need got a software upgrade until a new generation of hardware has unsupported features. As far as Windows upgrades, mine are always turned off. I run many real apps to secure my machine. I don't want anymore M.S. Spyware on my machine than I have to have. E.T. Phone home isn't something I like.

We may have only 3800 users, but we are the more informed, I have read the posts from the other sites, big difference in the thinking and the levels of good information. We may all not agree but we are doing our homework.

I found this site too late to get the APAP I want but at least I lucked out and did get one that I can see working.

My advice it backup our good luck! I don't think a change in software is needed until the new machines have more features that make the software useless, change just for the sake of change is a fools game, if it works leave it alone.
