Just had another Sleep test last night

Post by robertjvan » Wed Sep 28, 2011 5:37 pm

Tech told me it normally takes 6-8 weeks for the results, is this normal? Seams a long time to me; glad the Lab sent me home with a new Mask. When I had the 1st in Florida seams it only took 1-2 weeks.

That does seem like a long time. Here, it was just the turnaround time for the pulmonologist to read and dictate my sleep report. It was less than 1 week here in Atlanta, GA.

Only if you're "normal". If not you should hear from them much sooner.

I was able to get my results within 48 hours, all three sleep studies. Just call the office everyday until you get results.

Robert.

They're "workin' ya".......

The last sleep test i endured......the "doctor" met with us....one after the other....in the morning before we went home. He took care of everything that morning. We each got a report and a consultation.

Multiple WEEKS before you get a result is crap! And it's dangerous to your health.

If I were you, I'd raise hell....and demand your report immediately.

Could be the worst case, and living in the Catskill's Area maybe a factor. They send all the data out of area to be checked and the Doctor works in local area only 1 day a week, rest of time travels to other area's. Down side of living out in the country, but all in all is good.

I met with my sleep doc to discuss the results and received a copy of the sleep study report exactly one week after the sleep study. Such a long delay is BS. Maybe an extra week for mailing a DVD somewhere, but the report can be emailed back in seconds.

In today's fast paced world anything beyond a few days is hard to understand. Most of the data will in any case be computer generated.

I have had 9 sleep studies so far, never had to wait more than a week. I also make friends with the tech, who then I casually ask in the morning. After sitting and staring at monitors all night, they are grateful to have someone to talk to. It also gives them a chance to show of their knowledge. Let them know you will review with the Doctor, but wanted to get their insight. I get more out of them than the Doctor, who is happy when things are 'within the normal range'.

My sleep studies at Standford took about two weeks. I really am not sure what takes them so long. The delay must be coming from the doctor interpreting the results. It certainly does not take two weeks of a doctors time to examine the data, so the delay must simply come from a backlog.

It may be possible in some places that they do a months worth of studies, then one more doctors spend a week going over all the results at once. This could lead to a delay of 1 to 5 weeks.
CPAP for the rest of your life.

Seams the hold up is to see the sleep doctor. Have appointment to go over the results in November, but I take in the Machine Wednesday to get the new settings put into the CPAP.

My packet of info before the sleep study specifically stated that I should not ask the sleep tech about my data. They are not supposed to diagnose the patients, and asking them puts them in a difficult position.

I was awakened by a different person anyway, which makes sense. I checked in at 8pm, and I was awakened at 8am. I did ask one question. Did the machine change pressure during the night? Answer was yes. Cool. I didn't notice it all!

I had to wait almost 2 weeks for my appointment with the sleep doctor. My sleep study was on a Monday night, and I was told to wait a few days before calling to schedule the appointment. So, my appointment was the Thursday of the following week. I was able to talk to the DME the next day and had my machine the following Monday.
