single people using cpap

Post by marjoriemayhem » Fri Sep 23, 2011 6:39 pm

I,ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea 18months ago. I call my machine Dark Vayder, as thats what I feel like when I wear it.
I would love to hear from any other single people who have found romance ,as its been a total non event for me as I just feel too embarrassed about my machine.
maybe we need to set up a singles club for cpap users, lol. Any takers.

Sleep therapy changed my life for the better, never knew how bad it was before I got hooked to "the machine".

Respiratory Event Related Arousal

(3) A respiratory effort-related arousal event is defined as“ a sequence of breaths characterized by increasing respiratory effort leading to an arousal from sleep, but which does not meet criteria for an apnea or hypopnea.”

You do if you want to sleep and have dreams and not go psychotic.

Maybe.. maybe not.

All depends on what else is going on. Have you had a sleep study to see if you had sleep apnea?

Answered in your other thread and will leave this one to the person who started it and continue further discussions in the thread you created.

Ease into it, when bringing home that date, disappear for a few minutes and say you want to slip into something more comforatable.

There have been several threads on this - some of them rather raunchy.

Basically you are doing this for your health and any person who cares for you would not want to see you suffer. Besides there is the whole "I don't sound like a Mac truck without a muffler anymore, aren't you lucky!" attitude.

Um, you do realize the rest of us here look like that too, right? I do feel less attractive with my gear on, and I'm married. But I'm determined to believe that single people who are confident in themselves will have no problem attracting the kind of people they'd want to be with. I have to think that way because my son is only 8 and is on CPAP. For his sake I have to believe that not everyone he encounters, even as a teenager and in his 20's, will be superficial and immature. And I will have to work on him having the confidence to really believe that anyone that has a problem with it is not worth his while and not be hurt by them.

Ditto, and when it comes to sleep, I sleep with my S9.

After I got on apap, I found out several people I know are too. It seems women are more reluctant to talk about it than men. Or maybe the men that talk about it are the ones who have had dramatic results.
The women I know on cpap know very little about it and don't discuss it. I was trying to talk with one friend who is randomly compliant about problems she might be having, and it seems as though there are so many other things that could be causing the symptoms that she doesn't take her OSA seriously. Diabetes, stress, menopause, thyroid, depression.... I tried to explain that this is the easy one, no drugs, no needles...
Sorry, way off topic but I can't imagine that I would give up breathing to keep someone from else from having to sleep next to me wearing my mask.
...Going to think about sleeping with a fighter pilot now.....

Before I met my significant other I would just ask them if they wanted to get any sleep or would they rather listen to me snore all night. And if they said that my snoring couldn't be that bad - I would tell them that it's so bad I don't sleep without the snorkel. Feel free to go home, but I'm sleeping with the snorkel.
