In the last few nights, I have noticed that my PR1 Auto seems to be shutting off unexpectedly. When first noticed, it would be as I was trying to fall asleep and all of a sudden the pleasant hurricane attached to my nose was gone. I have recently been noticing that I wake in the morning from time to time with the mask off again (haven't had trouble with middle of the night mask yanks for months) and the machine is off.
When still awake, and the machine shuts itself off, there are no beeps (like a mask alarm or anything) but the lights remain on and/or with the overly bright humidifier indicator light flashing.
Sometimes it behaves as if it had a fault and sometimes it just goes... off.
Anyone? Anything like this or, given that the warranty ran out about 2 weeks ago, the machine just decided to take a powder?
Anyone have a PR1 (Auto) that unexpectedly shuts off?

Hi Mike,
I've read of others having this issue. Probably related to the auto-off/auto-on setting in the provider's menu.
To access that menu, press main button and ramp together till double beep. Better instructions available around here somewhere.
Take care,
Jamis

Re: Anyone have a PR1 (Auto) that unexpectedly shuts off?
Thanks Jamis.... I was afraid of that. I do have the Auto-on and Auto-off set the way that I put it when I first got the machine... On when I whap the mask on and breathe through it... off if I happen to take it off in my sleep.
This is new... I was laying there this morning and just thinking that going back to sleep for a nice lie-in would be a good thing.... No beep, no nothing... just shut itself off.... I restarted it and it did it again not 2 minutes later.
I am afraid that this is a $ related "auto-off" now.....

Did some more diligent searching here... Found a reference to these things just shutting off. Seems that when sent if for repair they often just send back a new current version with newer firmware on it. Will see if, given that JUST out of warranty (I think) if I can get it fixed.
dang it.

Turn both AutoOn and AutoOff off. If the problem persists contact your DME provider and INSIST that your PR S1 be replaced. This is a known problem w/the early PR S1s. Look on the bottom of your PAP for the manufacture date. It is an 8 digit number, first 4 digits the year, next 4 digits the month and day. If your DME provider won't replace or exchange it contact Philips Respironics directly.

Slinky, Just pointing out that I had to have my first PR System One BiPAP Auto replaced for this exact reason: Woke up to it rebooting itself one morning and boy was I alarmed. And then it happened a time or two more. And when I went back through the wave form data, I could find two or three other occurances of this happening.Slinky wrote:Turn both AutoOn and AutoOff off. And the thing is, my first BiPAP was NOT one of the "early PR S1s". It had a manufacture date in Dec. 2010 (if I recall) and it had the backlit LCD, the ability to use a 15 mm hose, and version 2.01 of the firmware.
To the OP: Report the problem immediately to the DME and insist on a replacement machine.

Why do you want to turn AutoOn off?Slinky wrote:Turn both AutoOn and AutoOff off.

Re: Anyone have a PR1 (Auto) that unexpectedly shuts off?
There are several problems with the PR S1, although nobody at Philips/Respironics wants to admit to them. But the firmware has been updated a few times, and there was a thread about it awhile ago.
I believe the most recent version is 2.1 (2.2? maybe)
I just had a big problem with mine the other day over a different issue I was having.
You can check the firmware version by unplugging the machine and then plug it in again. The LCD screen should immediately show which version of firmware that you have. That won't really help you much, but you can get an idea if you have an early machine or not
