Dry mouth with FF Quattro FX mask
I wake up with dry mouth after using my S9 auto. How can I stop this? Should I increase the humidity setting.
Re: Dry mouth with FF Quattro FX mask
It's not necessarily the mask, but our mouth breathing. I wake up with dry mouth from time to time. I just keep a glass of water nearby, try to breath with my nose, and keep the humidity at a 3 or 4 setting.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Do you use the climate control hose? I set the humidity at 81 and it helps a little. The deeper I sleep ( ffm) the drier my mouth gets. But I feel great all day long. So I use Biotene mouth wash which helps some. Dry mouth is a symptom of breathing through your mouth.

Shouldn't I be able to breath through my mouth with a FF mask?
Re: Dry mouth with FF Quattro FX mask
yes, you should be able to, as that is it's intended purpose, for mouth breathers.spartancal wrote:Shouldn't I be able to breath through my mouth with a FF mask?
What Bobby269 said is right, but for some reason *I* have noticed more dryness with the QuattroFX than with other FFM masks that I've tried over the past several years.
However, I still really like this mask.

You have probably become very comfortable using this mask and if your like me the more comfortable you become with your mask the more your jaw drops open thus heavy mouth breathing. Dry mouth is very uncomfortable to me so I have to use nose pillows along with a chin strap and tapping my mouth shut. This completely stops "the dry mouth".

Ditto, and prevent most leaks.

Re: Dry mouth with FF Quattro FX mask
I occasionally wake up with dry mouth using a Quattro FX mask.
Unfortunately, FF's are my only option, as I have sinus problems that preclude me from using nasal style masks... I am currently in the midst of a somewhat nasty sinus episode and have been more or less stuffed up for the past month, so the dry mouth that comes with the ff mask is something that I have to just suck up and deal with... I figure that the occasional morning of dry mouth is a small price to pay when I consider how much of an improvement in my quality of life Darth Vader has brought to me.

In the dental section of your drug store is a line of products for dry mouth. Toothpaste, mouthwash, and a gel you place inside your mouth before bed. One brand is Biotene- there may be more. Good luck.

I'm having similar problems with Quattro FX- I have humidity cranked to 5 and am using the Biotene rinse, but still have 3-4 wakeups per night with painfully dry mouth. Would using the chin strap along with FFM actually help to keep mouth more closed? It almost seems like my salivary glands are shutting down along with my kidneys during sleep!

I think you will find that a setting of 81 is a temperature setting and you are probably on an automatic humidity mode. Humidity settings on S9 are numbers like 5.5 if the setup allows for patient adjustments to humidity.Bobby269 wrote:Do you use the climate control hose? Re: Dry mouth with FF Quattro FX mask
There is only one way to find out and that is to try a chin strap. Everyone is different. You may have to go through a whole pile of chin straps before you find the right one. If that doesn't work you may have to tape your mouth like I do along with many others here on the forum. It can get very expensive sometimes finding the right combo but when you do, it will be worth the time and money spent.milw wrote:I'm having similar problems with Quattro FX- I have humidity cranked to 5 and am using the Biotene rinse, but still have 3-4 wakeups per night with painfully dry mouth. Re: Dry mouth with FF Quattro FX mask
Well I tried my PureSom Ruby chinstrap last night, and it definitely improved the dry mouth issue! We'll see if it works consistently for a while...
