newbie w/ Papillow question and some grousing thrown in

Post by winkin' » Fri Feb 17, 2006 7:25 pm

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted on the board yet- just lurked and asked some questions by pm.
I was diagnosed with OSA during a sleep study last May, but I have yet to feel rested and am not consistently compliant- I know...I know...
My machine is the remstar pro c-fex and my mask is the Fisher & Hegel 407. I'm a side and back sleeper. Since I tend to be somewhat claustrophobic, I did try the nasalaire 2 and a similar one put out by Tiara. Both were very noisy. I have ordered the Somnoplus mask and am keeping my fingers crossed. If I had the money, I would go with an autopap. My respiratory therapist says the mask should be helping me ( checking the smart card) but I'd rather see the results myself...not to mention feel them. I'm at a 10- which she says is "bordeline"
My question concerns the PAPillow. Any info. on it? I tried the memoryfoam but it had such a strong smell that didn't go away. Right now I sleep with 2 pillows.Helps with my refux.
I very much enjoy this forum and feel like I know some of you already. If I hadn't found this, I'd still be thinking the problem is just me. At newly 51, I should know better!
Wendy

Wendy, I bought the small papillow and although I complained about it intially, it is now the only pillow I use. It is a plump little thing that I can swing around various ways. I love to sleep with my arms lifted along side my head and the small size allows this easily. I don't have any experience with the full size papillow but I have read that it is 4" high (the smaller pillow is 3") and that, along with its width, would probably be too much pillow for me. I continue to seek a 3" high foam pillow in every store I visit that I could custom cut myself. All the pillows I have found have that sort of dip or ridge in them. I'm looking for a "level" pillow.

I have the double edge regular Papillow and absolutely love it. I sometimes (actually several times) wake up to readjust the filling to make it a little firmer since I sleep on the side of it, but would not trade it. I used to have neck pain (disc issues) with my other pillow (which is a good one), but never with the Papillow. It is not as large as a regular pillow therefore it would not be a problem to travel with IMO. Being the regular one is small anyway, I don't think I would go with a mini one, but that is just my opinion and a matter of personal choice as many people like and prefer the mini.

My only complaint, and a trivial one at best, is I wish they made the pillow covers in colors instead of white.

I've got the same PAPillow size that Snoozie has - the double edge. Love it!

Here's another vote for the double-edge pappillow! Love it! I am so used to sleeping with it, I pack mine with me even for one night away from home! Go ahead and spring for it! Betcha you'll love it too!

Thanks

winkin, the pillow is odor free, and if it gets stinky after you get it, it is wonderfully washable,

snoozie, washing the papillow in warm water and drying in a cool dryer with tennis balls, will fluff it back to like new, so you don't need to shift the fill during the night.

hecate: it is sold online by three suppliers:

sleepquest, talkaboutsleep and cpap-direct, the last is the cheapest.
