OT: So Well: Fans of irony, take note

Post by Mike6977 » Mon Sep 05, 2011 2:39 pm

...

Yeah, I know I shouldn't bother.

But So Well has actually managed to raise my blood pressure, and that takes . . . talent.

So, rather than let "So Well" continue his hijack of a very serious thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=67710&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15, I've decided to answer him here, and delete my answer to his hijack. I hope he has the common decency to delete his two most recent hijack posts in that thread.

I'd ask, that if any of members feel the need to post here, please let "So Well" answer first, before you do post. Or even better, let's hope So Well "does the right thing", deletes his two hijacks, and wisely lets this new thread sink silently away.

For the sake of continuity, So Well posted this:
So Well wrote:
Mike6977 wrote:
I've hijacked more than my share of posts—and don't want come off as the teapot calling the kettle black.

But considering that this poor man may have already had a heart attack (there are "silent" heart attacks), and badly needs to get to a hospital, your hijack is f***in' unconscionable.

So Well, congratulations. You've just achieved a new low

Please don't reply . . you've done enough.

...

Mike, Was your ADD running at very high levels yesterday? You failed to notice that the OP introduced the subject of poor medical care and a poor Canadian medical system four times before I chose to commiserate with him:
DaveL wrote:My sleep doc is a danger.
DaveL wrote: I have waited 2 months for an appointment to be made with the specialist. Weicome to Canadian medicine, at least the way my gp sees it.

DL
DaveL wrote: If I presented recorded information about my treatment, I expect my sleep doc would refuse to review it. I need a referral to a new sleep doc.
DL

DaveL wrote:
BTW many people in toronto have no family doctor. I am lucky to have one, though he works in a flawed system.

Our medical, health care costs are out of control. There were measures taken a few years ago that affect us today. We have health management, not health care.

just my 2cents worth.
So you see Mike, it was DaveL that introduced the subject in his thread. It is hardly a hijacking to commiserate with him.

In any case, I have seen enough of DaveL’s posts to know he is quite capable of defending his own threads.

Not satisfied, he then immediately posted this:
So Well wrote:Mike, Are you aware that many people after developing a health problem begin to become concerned that everyone around them has the same health problem? I believe you have fallen into this trap and have become an alarmist crying to DaveL.

Your ADD kicked in again because you failed to read DaveL’s followup posts carefully. It is true that DaveL titled the thread “Short of breath during the day?”

However if you pay a little attention you will see he immediately backed off this description of the symptom he is experiencing:
DaveL wrote: I feel as if I forget to breath. Lung capacity is ok.
DL

Mike, You will also notice that DaveL says:
DaveL wrote:My physical condition is improving through weight loss and regular exercise. I walk up local hills more easily than I did 6 months ago. I have lost 30 pounds.
Mike, I accuse you of being an alarmist claiming DaveL has had a heart attack. To the contrary, after correcting what he meant by the title, there are indications that DaveL has not had a heart attack. Of course, as I said in the post you crudely objected to:
So Well wrote: I echo what others have said about getting the heart checked out quickly.
I am also concerned that your nocturia is a sign that you are having a significant amount of apneas. Can you read your AHI and mask leak on that machine? Data is a must, IMO.
Everyone should have an annual exam and discussion about their heart health with a doctor. However, :
DaveL wrote: I feel as if I forget to breath. DL
is reported often in this forum and there is no evidence that it is a symptom of heart disease or heart attack.

Maybe you are the pot calling the “high grade brushed 18/8 stainless steel” teapot black? Bwaaahaaaahaaaa

So Well, I have to admit you're good: I took your bait hook, line and sinker — without thinking of the original poster, DaveL.

DaveL, I really hope you follow the consensus of opinions in that thread, and seek immediate medical help, because 99% of us clearly had your best interests at heart.

Now, let me turn my attention to that 1 percenter . . .

Hi Mike

First of all let me congratulate you on this thread

It has five posts before mine, and all are from the original poster - being yourself

I believe this is a record for this Forum.

Then let me say how impressed I am with your conversation with So Well, without him being present. This is postmanship of a high order

I hope you continue with this thread, whether or not So Well replies.

Of course, if So Well does reply, then you can start another thread with the new material

cheers

I think many of us would like to hear from Dave L, to know he at least saw his doctor/ER! Shortness of breath is not something to be taken lightly. And, if it turns out to be nothing, WONDERFUL! I mean, who wouldn't have chest pain or shortness of breath not checked out???

Shoulda read this first, Mike! Smart man you are!

"First, take an aspirin—I know it's tempting, but skip the vodka chaser.

Taking an aspirin sounds trivial, but this will actually provide you with some real protection. It's like, uh, a condom for your heart.

Yeah, I know you've got stuff to do, and it's a drag, but go to the emergency room today. Have someone else drive you, you can ride shotgun and play with the radio.

I don't like fibbing, but it's important that you jump any bullsh*t bureaucratic tape, so I would tell the admitting nurse/staffer (the one that takes your initial information and is the gatekeeper for who is seen first) that you are suffering chest pains and shortness of breath right now, even if you aren't.

It's a simple process: you'll be admitted, assigned a bed, and hooked up to an EKG.

No need to sweat this, it's all painless, I've been through this routine myself a couple of times, and now I demand a bodacious nurse.

You should do the same, it works wonders.

Unless it's the night-shift, you'll soon be making some new friends: more nurses, a couple of young, inquisitive interns, then finally, a cardiologist.

He'll take it from there, and you'll be right as rain."

Since I hear a multitude of voices in my head, I've had lots of practice. But those voices only speak when spoken to.

Well, except for this one recent voice, kinda sounds like kittenish Paul Hogan, can't place the accent . . .

Wait a minute! You're Australian. I'm American, and thus, I outrank you. Just ask "So Well" if you don't believe me.

G'day, sir. I said G'day, sir!

Well, while we're waiting for Godot, I might as well check in with Vlad, former group chief, special operations division of SSI, and a hell of a vodka drinking buddy.

Holy smokes! Vlad just told me this is going to be printed in today's NY Times, and Fans of Irony, take note, it's a doozy:

"Leak Offers Look at Efforts by U.S. to Spy on Israel"

Talk about man bites dog.

While we're waiting patiently for "So Well" to show up, a little background might be helpful.
ems wrote:Semi-serious OT thread now turning into a comical OT thread. Nice! do do doo...
It's OK. The serious thread was the previous thread, the one where we're all trying to get Dave L to seek immediate medical evaluation.

This thread is about "So Well"'s attempted Obama-bashing hijack of that thread, and since it's really no more than a well-earned public spanking of "So Well", it isn't serious at all, and should just be enjoyed for whatever humor our readers can mine from it.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

mars wrote:It has five posts before mine, and all are from the original poster - being yourself .
I had to break it up into five posts:

1. An intro, explaining why I was posting.

2. A copy of "So Well"s two posts, so the thread would make sense.

3. A brief wind up, then . . .

4. Some harmless fencing practice.

I could've compiled the entire thing into one humongous post, but any potential reader, seeing the absurd size of the thing, would just mumble: "Seriously?", and skip on to the next post.

I don't write not to be read, Mars, do you?

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

mars wrote:
First of all let me congratulate you on this thread, etc., etc., etc.
If "So Well" had done the honorable thing, and deleted his two hijack posts (I PMed him a gentle message asking him to please do just that), I would've been forced to respond in kind, and delete this thread.

As it was, Mars, before you posted, this post was sinking like a rock, with a readership of 40 pairs of eyeballs at around 11 pm EST.

Then, despite my reasonable request (I know, I know, you couldn't help yourself), you decided to post, have a little sport with me (completely cool, and even welcome), and in doing so, you dragged the post off the ocean floor, and popped it to the surface for all to marvel at. Now, at 10:15pm EST, this post has a readership of 278, with a bullet.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

But, imho, the right honorable gentleman made two mistakes.

I know this will sound, well, odd coming from me of all people, but . . . less is more.

(The irony in this thread now officially runs several layers deep )

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mistake One: Had you simply posted:
mars wrote: WTF?
This would have done the trick, rising the post to the top, letting a new set of readers (the night-shift crowd) take the briefest glance at my post, see your pithy "WTF" answer, guffaw, thinking: "That trolling idiot Mike6977 is at it again, what an attention whore!"

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Mistake Two: It seems to me a lot of this board are moderately conservative, with a few unreflective NeoCons like "So Well" thrown in for good measure.

Despite her many serious flaws — our USA members, left of the aisle or right — all join together in our love for our country, America.

I could live anywhere in the world (New Zealand is breathtaking, btw, wouldn't mind it all), but like most other Americans, I choose to live here.

My remark to you:
Mike6977 wrote:Wait a minute! You're Australian. I'm American, and thus, I outrank you. Just ask "So Well" if you don't believe me.
Was obviously tongue-in-cheek, of course no person or country in this crazy, mixed up world of ours "out-ranks" any other.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________

But you responded with this rather nasty USA bashing link:

http://www.swedishwire.com/economy/6598 ... ican-dream

Which deceptively opens with this "hook the suckers into the tent" agitatin' paragraph:
Silly Swedish Magazine wrote: Forget the socialist-bashing rhetoric and reverence for the filthy rich, when it comes to wealth distribution, Americans -- even Republicans -- would really rather live somewhere like Sweden.
Sweden? .Oy, gevalt!

Confusion to the French,

Mike

Hi Mike

You mean you missed the tongue-in-cheek of the Swedish link - too bad you got all serious about it

Never mind - keep on posting to yourself until you get the hang of it !

You do of course understand that if So Well never replies - he wins, but you still get to practice your irony, and the rest of us all have a good laugh

Which means everybody wins
