Check your PM box.

For those who might also be wondering about computer speed. Pro is big, bulky and slow when it is doing its stuff but there is nothing in the software to slow down the normal computer things going on when not using Pro. It does not run behind the scenes to eat up resources.

So Pro opening and accumulating data is slow itself but it is the program and it won't make any other programs slower.

What kind of laptop do you have and what operating system is it using?

The thing to understand about the Pro 2 software is it's great and has a lot of good information and graphs other programs don't, but it is very top heavy with a bunch of functions only the professionals use. Pugsy sent me a great write up about it, get it from her. I also changed the password to not expire and set the password to 999999 for easier access to the program. I don't think it will slow any computer down, it's not that type of program. It does take FOREVER to run the install for it. If you want I'd be happy to talk you though some of it, it's somewhat challenging to learn to use it. Talk to Pugsy though first, she's great with it.

Check your PM box. Do you have the clinician manual? If not send me a PM with your private email address and I will send it to you. Your Profile shows PR S1 Auto..like I have.. so I have that clinician manual. There is information in the manual that helps describe some of the terminology in the software reports (along with other stuff)

Sorry to ask so late. I bought Encore Viewer, but I only have 64bit PCs and Macs. Encore Viewer needs a 32bit machine. Kinda feel cheated out of a lot of money by Philips as I can't return it because I've opened the wrapper. Any chance of a download link to Encore Pro 2 please?

Need Windows for Pro but at least 64 bit is available. Check your Private Messages for more information.
Let us know if you run into trouble. Sometimes Pro doesn't play nice on some computers.
Also when you have time you might want to investigate SleepyHead. It offers some stuff Pro doesn't.

My Dell laptop has two different programs folders, one for 32-bit programs and one for 64-bit programs. It runs both. I'm not sure this applies to all 32-bit programs, maybe some really don't run. Did you check on that, starting with Phillips? That's insane if their program only runs on 32 bit machines.

If it truly won't run, they should offer you something.

If they won't, you're looking at a sale on cpapauction.com, or could you do what I do? It's very inexpensive to keep an older desktop around that runs Windows XP Pro 32-bit. Almost all software will run on that, and I keep it around for just this type of problem. The alarm installers at work have talked to me many times about how they have to buy older computers that will "talk" to a lot of the systems they install. Some of the alarm systems are used long after the computers and operating systems are deemed "obsolete."

Encore Viewer is designed based on 32 bit computers. It won't install from the disc on 32 bit computers (that's what I have been told).. I have been told that if one installs it on a 32 bit system that they can then copy the program folder to a disc and move it to 64 bit computer. I have not tried it. I do have a copy of Viewer on disc but I don't have an install disc. When I put it on my 32 bit computer I just copied the whole thing and then created a shortcut to the application exe file to open the program. I now have a 64 bit computer but I had not thought to try Viewer again this way. I will try to remember tomorrow to do the same thing on this new computer.

My understanding is that there is a conflict with the install disc commands on 64 bit computers but that simple copy bypasses the problem. I could also be misunderstanding what I have read so don't count this as the gospel. If true it only helps those who happen to have a 32 bit computer laying around somewhere.

Love you Pugsy! We think so similar.

My point is, there are good Pentium 4 desktop towers out there to be had for $75-100. For me worth having one around. Wait, I have about 4 of them around, and one runs Windows 98se! LOL.

I have done some limited work on problems like this one. That makes some sense to me that you could copy the program out of the programs folder from a 32-bit machine and transfer the whole program in it's folder to a 64-bit machine. This is not a very involved program, all it does is take the data and show it on the screen as charts and graphs.

When you run an installer package from a disk, it does two things I think. It transfers files to the programs folder, and also makes entries in the "registry" so the computer knows where to find the things it needs to run the program.

It seems possible to me that once the program is "unpacked" in it's own folder, there might be a "setup" icon in the encore viewer folder that could then install the program on a 32-bit machine just by double clicking on it. The issue might be unpacking it off the disk and the auto-install feature.

If you remember where you read this, I could look at it and see if it makes sense to me.

I do good to remember what I read much less where... Just comments people have made about how they have managed to use Viewer on 64 bit computers. Bits and pieces that I assimilate. It has been a couple of months since I saw someone mention the steps.. There is a thread somewhere "how to install Viewer on 64 bit" or similar wording. I know it is not exact wording. I hate the forum search. Even if I search for a know title (one I wrote) it doesn't always come up as first listing.

Hey, it worked.
Inserted the disc with the unzipped files and folder into this 64 bit computer.
Opened the disc. Copied all files and folders in one fell swoop. Pasted them into a newly created folder on desktop for Viewer. Found the application exe file (easy to spot) clicked on it to open program. It did. I created a new patient. Did not go get SD card but I have no doubt it will work properly. Closed program and while I still had the application exe file in front of me I pinned that application exe file to Start Menu so I don't have to hunt for it each time. Tested to make sure and it worked.

So Viewer will run and work on 64 bit computers. It just won't install from the setup.exe file like normal installs will.

So for those with Viewer and unable to install..you might try opening the disc and not let it try to install using the setup.exe file. Instead, copy the files and folders to a newly created folder on desktop minus the setup.exe file. May not need to use a 32 bit computer to install to and then copy from. And use the application.exe file to open the program (BTW there are 2 application files with the Encore logo.. the one needed is the largest file size. They are next to each other in the list). I have no way of testing this without the install disc though.

That was a good night's work. Good job!

Why Phillips doesn't make a fix then to easily install in a 64-bit computer is beyond me. It would not take much effort on their software engineer's part.

They could at least instruct people to do what you did.

Idiots!

You know it wasn't hard and did not take much time at all. It took me longer to type what I did to explain steps than it did to do it all. I need to find someone with 64 bit computer and the install disc to see if we can do the same thing eliminating the need for a 32 bit computer at all. Then we could compose a complete set of instructions for those wanting to use Viewer, for whatever reason, on 64 bit computers. Up to now the choice would be to go to Pro or use SleepyHead or Onkor. I didn't use my 32 bit computer in my steps but my disc wasn't an install disc. It is obviously a copy and minus the setup.exe files which trigger the install wizard.

Viewer doesn't offer waveform. A minus for those who want to see flow in detail. Otherwise the reports are exactly the same as Pro. It is half the size of Pro. Some people don't sleep well using Pro since they don't pay for it. Never bothered me but I understand some people don't feel right using stuff from a gray market. For those people it would be nice to figure out steps needed so that they don't totally waste the $99. I have a recent 64 bit Viewer owner in mind. I will see if he will try just opening the install disc and copying the files just to see what steps are needed.
