Been strapping on Facehugger for ‘bout 7 months now, results have come in small increments. Starting to notice little stuff doesn’t irritate me so much these days – but sure do notice other people that could use a little sleep therapy (or better anti-psycho meds)
Few weeks ago, worked a deal with a buddy in the car business that owed me a couple bucks to upgrade Wifey’s audio system in her soccer-Mom SUV. (I have a pretty stout system in my ride and she likes to feel the bass) Anyway apparently she was very pleased with the upgrade ‘cause she bought me a new Nike Sumo Driver for the golf bag – wooohooo!
Took said Driver out to the range last weekend for a little Research and Development (Research why it’s always the Arrow and never the Indian and Develop a technique for throwing the Driver as far as I can when shanking that shot on the #1 tee)
Anyway, my retarded modified Beer-League Softball/Jr. Hockey Slap-Shot Golf Swing generally results in a mild to moderate right to left Draw with the occasional snappy Duck-Hook to keep me honest. This particular Driving Range has a busy road running along the left side with a big net to protect the cars from hooky-hackers. Place is sorta run down, mats are a little rough, nets have a few holes and sag in places, etc.
So, of course, I start to get comfortable with the Driver and decide to really crank one and see if I can start hitting the back net. First shot one-hopped into the back net - AWSEOME!!! Second shot, came over the top and duck hooked that range ball right through a hole in the net about 1 foot in diameter – the hole was about 20 feet up, 100 yds down range – 1 in a million shot to go through clean.
Ball arced up through the hole, continued out and up over the roadway and then augured back down like it was laser-guided right into the windshield of an oncoming car – damn.
Dude slams on the brakes and screechs the car to a stop about even with the tee deck – could see him glaring up at everyone trying to see if one of us was going to waive “hi” or something – then peels out (car was an old POS Monte Carlo) and pulls into the parking lot.
Well, I figured it’d take him a minute to get in so I went ahead and finished up the bucket of balls (no more through the net) grabbed my gear and headed back into the front counter to see what was what. Walked in on the guy just going bat shit crazy with the staff – wanted the manager, wanted compensation for damages, wanted the person who hit the ball, wanted blood basically…Staff was trying to talk to him, he kept yelling threats, red-faced shaky the whole bit.
I finally walked up on him and asked for my Top-Flite back – took him a minute to get it and then he went nuts, started really screaming and flailing around, wanted the staff to call the cops so he could press charges etc…. I really hate bullies, felt like he was one so I ignored him and started talking OVER him to the staff – made comments like “somebody missed nap time” and “could one of you guys call the cops I want to report a stolen golf ball” that sort of thing. Got some of the staff laughing enough that the guy finally started to calm down.
Long story short – I figured I would be on the hook for damages (signs up all over the facility saying the Range was not responsible for damages etc) but turns out they stood up and took the hit because of the hole in the net – they worked out something with dude and gave me a card with a couple of free buckets – not bad.
I figure that is one guy that could use a good nights sleep.
Mostly OT - Fore!!!
Re: Mostly OT - Fore!!!
LOL Nice story.
I have this Golf course about 3 miles out of town that I go to sometimes. One of the tee boxes and fairway runs parallel with a highway that gets busy and there is no net or trees that block off said highway. I am always afraid to play this hole because I have a nasty slice that has a tendency to go right which happens to be in the direction of the highway. So far I have been lucky.

Well, considering what COULD have happened when the golf ball went thru the windshield I'm glad it all worked out so well in the end!!! Whew!!!
