ResMed S9 Humidifier Clicking Noise (h5i)

Post by cy5578 » Fri Aug 26, 2011 6:02 am

Hey All

I am only new to this site, but I found it after searching for my current problem - that being my ResMed S9 machines humidifier making a clicking noise.

Long story short, I have only been diagnosed and started using the machine a few months back, anyway I had a trial machine which did not have any clicking noises coming from it, but then when I bought a machine I noticed straight away that the machine had a clicking noise every few seconds - after trial and error I figured out that it was the humidifier that was making the noise.

Called ResMed who told me that with the new humidifiers this was normal since they made a few changes to the software for the humidifier ! After telling them how annoying this is they said there is nothing they can do as all the machines now use this same software - I spoke to the shop I made my purchase through and they sent mine back and asked for them to fix the clicking noise - they lent me a older humidifier that did not make the clicking noise - after a month they have sent the new one back saying they have fixed it - used it tonight for 2 mins and it is exactly the same still clicks !!

So I am keeping their loan machine and they can have my new one, there is no way I can deal with a click.......click.......click every 5 seconds or so. Resmed told me I would get used to it, I said do you have sleep apnea - they said no, I said well tonight when you go to bed find the loudest clock you have and sit it on your bedside table and see if you can get used to it.

How stupid that they are "upgrading" the software to now make it click ??

This should only apply to anyone getting a new machine purchasing stock made in the last few months or so - my advice either complain or look around for old stock non-clicking.

Hope this helps someone else out, it was driving me mad - I am in Australia so not sure if this will effect other parts of the world?

Cheers
Chris

Mine makes that noise, but only occasionally. If it does it during the night, I don't hear it. I only notice it if it does it when I am reading before bed.

Here is a thread from a few weeks ago: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55392&p=574635&hili ... ng#p574635

Since it is so annoying for you, have you thought about putting your S9/H5i somewhere else other than more or less at ear level?

I have mine on the floor and don't notice any noise at all from it.

Cheers,

Bill

I will confirm that getting a completely new humidifier, and then new cpap unit, the clicking noise was still there. So apparantly this is a new "feature". Admittdely, it IS not a very loud annoyance at all. But in a bedroom, in the middle of the day, when the unit is off, the noise can be heard, and yes, becomes a little annoying.

Which leads me to a new question regarding the previous post on this subject.-- does Resmed ever post firmware updates? Where? And can users install them? Thinking that if they added this as indicated in previous post, they may decide to "fix it".

Meanwhile, I've stuck the unit in a new bureau by my bed. Problem is, the bureau gives off the odor of new furnature. Not bad, but a bit annoying when inhaling thru the cpap. Just can't win!

I have this same humidifier, purchased 5 weeks ago, brand new in box and I don't have any noises from mine. Both my cpap and humidifier units are so quiet you can't tell they are on.

Not to my knowledge. Never heard of it being offered. Repsironics a no also. Seems like DeVilbiss does though.

Any updates on this? I recently purchased a S9 and noticed the clicking as well.

I saw a demo on YouTube where this guy get's "hosed up" and reads a magazine. I don't get it. Why do you put it on before you are ready to turn the lights out?

And to the O.P., I have the same setup, and the only time I hear any noise from the humidifier is when I don't have the lid shut tight.

I have had my humidifier since April 2010, and I've never, ever heard a click.
Sounds like a defect to me.

Yeah, I don't see where there is anything mechanical in the humidifier that would produce a click. Again, check that the lid is closed tightly. The little latch on mine didn't catch a couple of times. Now, I just make sure that it is fully to the left.

Make sure you close the humidifier tightly (you should hear it click shut). If you still hear the click, I think it's defective, and would make a very loud noise where you purchased it.

The clasp on the Hi5 is cheap and requires attention when closing to see if it really is closed.

Having the machine on the floor below head height and susceptable to more dust and dirt I do not think is the best place.

Putting it inside a drawer that may have formalidhide use in its construction is not such a good idea as you will be breathing those vapors.

My 2 cents.

Sleep therapy changed my life for the better, never knew how bad it was before I got hooked to "the machine".
