where to sell res med CPAP

Post by RC121212 » Sun Aug 28, 2011 9:15 am

I'm going through the house and found CPAP machine marked RES MED autoset vantage S8 (also says humidaire humidifier 3i on same machine), never used (possibly once although does not appear so), AND a unopened bag 'Respironics comfort gel mask w/hgr, m, dom'. Stored 5-10 years however both in mint condition.

I was going to take to my ebay consignor however notice (from google) that it cannot be listed on ebay since it requires Px (the mask apparently can be listed). So I was going to try CPAPauction where they handle Px however I see no Res Med - does CPAPauction (or RM) not allow Res Med sales on that site? Or does anyone here need one (apologies if I'm not supposed to ask that here)? I'm not good with pictures or paypal/packaging so I might be able to get my ebay guy to list them on CPAPauction (if that's allowed) or otherwise coordinate sale to someone who could use it. Thanks.

We used to be able to buy and sell ResMed products at the cpapauction but a year or so ago ResMed implemented a ban on any of their products being sold on the auction. No masks, no replacement pillows, no machines....nothing.
They want to be able to control everything in an effort to keep all the business at the DME level since they view the DME as the customer and cater to them because the DMEs whine when they lose sales to online suppliers because of the price. I personally find this attempt at a monopoly highly offensive and one of the reasons I haven't been trying very hard to get one of their machines.

Thanks for the info, yeah that was what I thought I read somewhere. I guess respironics is a different company so only the mask could be sold online with ebay or cpaauction. Maybe I could put the CPAP in the local paper and not specify the brand until they called (then we'll see if RM can figure it out ).

The easiest was it so put it on craigs list. And, you are free and not the slave of resmed. Ignore anyone who says differently. Watch the cash you get: there has been more counterfeit money lately.

Not sure why it made me sign in with different user, probably wasn't logged in, we'll see if it works as RC1212.

That seems wrong RM can restrict that, I guess only the prescription factor lets them get away with it, since otherwise many companies would not want to see a secondary market.

Thanks Dave, I might just try that, yeah definitely no worries about RM, if anything would enjoy taunting them. Appreciate the heads up on the counterfeit aspect, hadn't heard much about that.

ResMed won't bother you as an individual with ad in paper or craigslist.

The Ebay sellers with masks get past the RX requirement by listing mask parts as individual replacement items.
Replacement parts don't require RX. I have looked at some of the prices (some out of line) but I have see a few Buy it now prices for my mask low enough that I am able to "build my mask" from replacement parts for about $50.

I have seen new cpap machines listed at Amazon.com. Unsure how they manage the RX requirement but most seem to be DME type of seller so maybe they ask it later before shipping or maybe they don't ask at all.

Secondwindcpap.com will purchase used machines but they purchase to resell and make a profit. Your machine may be slightly or never used but it does have some age to it which will reduce marketability. Your best chance will probably be Craigslist ad. I would suggest that you list full information. I am currently looking for a specific machine and I hate the ads that don't explain what is being offered. I don't want to waste my time and theirs sending an email about "what machine is it".

Of course we can quietly keep commenting in your thread here and someone who might want your type of machine will see the post and send you and email asking you how much you want. Do you have the special ResMed smart card reader to throw in with the deal? The S8 machines need that special card reader which only seems to be found in Israel or China for around $100..smart card themselves hard to find and when found around $40.

What Pugsy said.
A few members have mentioned wanting that machine.
I'd be patient for a couple of days here.
What do you expect to get for it. I could use a back up, but don't know much about that one.

The Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage was and is one h*ll of a good APAP. If it doesn't have the Vantage in its name then it is actually an S8 II AutoSet which is even newer. The S8s came out in 2006, the S8 IIs came out in 2008 so its not all that old. You can find the year and month of manufacture on the bottom plate of the APAP, the first 6 numbers of the serial number.

Because of my experience (and love affair) w/the S8 Elite and S8 AutoSet Vantage (as well as experience w/the excellent Respironics pre-M Series Pro and pre-M Series Auto) when I was switched to a bi-level I INSISTED on a Resmed S8 VPAP Auto (altho I did later buy a Respironics pre-M Series BPAP Auto as a back up out of pocket). Only because Resmed was so late coming out w/an S9 VPAP Auto after the introduction of their S9 Elites and S9 AutoSets I did obtain a PR SystemOne BPAP Auto as a backup.

I like my Resmed S8 VPAP Auto so much I haven't gotten any too excited about the S9 VPAP Auto. The more I look them over, the less inclined I am to want one. The only thing I like better about the S9 VPAP Auto (not having actually used one) is the SD card and USB.

Assuming access method is the same w/the S8 IIs as w/the S8s you can determine the actual total number of hours on the AutoSet by pressing and holding the Right and Down buttons for 3-4 seconds, then scroll thru the menus w/the down button (and right and left and up buttons as indicated).

I see how Resmed can simply refuse to sell CPAP equipment wholesale to online dealers like Cpap.com, who sell directly to consumers. But, how can Resmed restrict what is sold on Ebay or Cpapauction.com, where the sellers are individuals?

cpapauction is owned by our hosts who would get the rug pulled out from under them. eBay has its own rules re - medical devices and prescriptions.

It's probably a case of someone threatening legal action and the other party buckling under rather than fighting the legal battles.

My Husband's S8 just broke and we are desperate to get it fixed or find another machine. If you are selling or giving away this machine, please contact us at (410) 708-5485. If anyone knows of a reputable service company, we would be interested in the info. Thanks.

Fifty
Do not put your phone number or email address on a site...you are only asking for troubles from scammers or spammers.
If you would register on the site (user control panel) at the top left side of the page, then you can send and receive private messages with anyone else registered here. The seller of the machine is registered so you can send a pm (private message) to him for all the info that you need. As to repairs on your machine any dealer in your region can fix it for you.....my question is..how long have you had it..as it may still be on warranty.
Good luck
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
