OT: Frontier vs Verizon Slow Speed Dial Up
OT: Frontier vs Verizon Slow Speed Dial Up
Grrrrr! Verizon sold their landline service in this area to Frontier. Whooopeee! At least w/Verizon we got 50.6 Kbps. The last few days or so Frontier has been providing 42.6 and 44 Kbps. They send us high speed dial up offers in the mail w/our phone bill - but when we call we are told high speed is not available in our area and they have NO IDEA when it will be. We were warned Frontier's service sucked but we had no choice in the matter. The state allowed the sale.

The nice part about being old, tired and retired, Mars. I'm home, I am in and out as I please, I can sit and read a few posts, reply to a few, then go do something else for awhile and stop in again later and do the same again.

Re: OT: Frontier vs Verizon Slow Speed Dial Up
It may be too expensive or not suitable for you, but we before sold our house and started living full time in our motor home, we dropped our phone service and went with a Verizon cell phone - no charge for long distance. Then we added a Verizon aircard and data plan.
We have 450 minutes per month on the cell phone and have never used that much. We are grandfathered with unlimited data on the data plan but new subscribers will have 5GB with a $10 extra charge for each additional GB or part of a GB. Your cost for the above would be about $100 per month depending on the taxes in your area.
We still have a 3G aircard and our speeds are:
National Access, 60 to 80 kbps with bursts up to 144 kbps.
Broadband Access, 400 to 700 kbps with bursts up to 2000 kbps.
We almost always are in a broadband area.
The new aircards are 4G capable with speeds of 20,810 kbps down, 3,410 kbps up .
They offer a MIFI unit which is an aircard combined with a router in a small package that will let up to five devices connect. It is a WIFI hotspot in effect.
The speed you get will depend on your location.

Thank you, Clayt. That sounds like it may be more than we want to pay ... but ... its worth looking into.

Look carefully at the amount of data they will allow you for the price. Most of them limit one to like 4 gb a month, which is barely enough to do txt email. No pics, no videos unless you want to run out.
Used to be T-Mobile seemed to offer more. I think all the carriers are dropping unlimited internet.
