You would end up with lots of posts questioning whether some thread/discussion was allowable or not. So I appreciate where you're coming from, but I voted no.
I would like to see such threads clearly labelled with OT and an informative title. Many times I've clicked on an interesting thread title only to realize that it has nothing to do with CPAP, and that I've "read" that same thread several times already. I'm really not interested in that thread at all, but I have to "read" it multiple times. Very annoying. It'd be nice to have a "Hide this thread from me" button.

Re: Poll: Should OT posts be banned from cpaptalk.com?
If I see an OT post and the topic is of no interest to me, I don't even click on it.
So.... I don't care whether OT posts are banned or not, however unless someone is willing to spend a lot of time policing this it's going to happen just as it does to every other message board/forum I've belonged to.
Oh, and because there wasn't an "I don't care" button, I picked NO - mostly because I don't have conversations with my diabetic and/or OSA suffering friends about only diabetes and/or OSA - we do talk about other stuff otherwise we'd all go round the bend more than we are now.
Cheers,

Great idea.JointPain wrote: It'd be nice to have a "Hide this thread from me" button.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

There are many politically based forums on the internet, as well as anything else one might be interested in. A question was asked. I answered it.
Oh... and I don't ride buses.

I don't care if posts are OT or not. I don't even care if OT topics aren't listed as OT. I read what I want to and don't read the ones I don't want to. If the couple of seconds it takes to click on the 'Board Index" tab at the bottom of the page is too much for you, maybe you need to not frequent forums.

Re: Poll: Should OT posts be banned from cpaptalk.com?
Censorship is always a bad idea, period.
Even if an OT thread is not marked as "OT," it is usually quite obvious when it is OT.
I assume almost everyone here is an adult. Adults can ignore what they do not want to read. Adults do not need to be protected against having to decide not to read what they do not want to read. Just grow up and don't read it.
In any event, I love how people opposed to OT threads are actually participating in an OT thread!

Re: Poll: Should OT posts be banned from cpaptalk.com?
I vote to ban OT posts. While members of this forum are undoubtably more mature than the Yahoos posting over at CNN.com--does that count as a pun?--some of the same rancor is apparent. Also, OT posting, especially when it's political, encourages multiple-personality-disorder on the part of some people, a medical problem that a medical-self-help board like this should not promote.
