CPAP newbie AHI falls at first then rises in first week.

on Resp. M Series Auto on CPAP at 6, FFM. Tested AHI (no CPAP) 20.1
the first 3 days my AHI went down to the low 2.0's. in the last 4 days it's been consistently around 3.0 (I have limited data on provider hire machine)
is it common for a small rise when first using it, after the first fall.
perhaps the body is adjusting and relapsing into old habits.
(leaks are consistent, so its probably not that).

Fluctuations from one night to the next are normal. I don't think you have enough data points yet to determine if there is really a trend one direction or another. Also, the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is really a very small difference and not something to be particularly concerned about.

If you are getting the data off the machine, the M series machine only shows 7 and 30 day averages. So not a single night average unless you are resetting the data to zero each night (yes, it can be done). There is software available to see single night data but it requires a special car reader.

yes, but having used it for a week the difference from the last day to the previous times seven will be the increase in that last day. eg a sequence of [ 6 6 6 6 6 6 10] that last difference would have been 42. I won't stop to check my lazy maths, but that's the idea. I am using it for 6 weeks to take to the specialist., and very much looking forward to gettting my hands on my own machine and data.

Unfortunately without using the software you can't see exactly what is going on each night.
Obviously if the average is increasing slightly so are the overall events each night.
You are really limited as to what is going on without the software and I can sure understand not wanting to spend money on the card reader. Cheapest I have seen it is $40 + S & H.

if I could get cpapauction to accept my presciption (they only accepted masks and gear, Ive contacted them about this) , these units are not expensive ($150 with card reader plus post to Aus, maybe $75 + mask $150 = < $400). criminal of them not to have basic SD cards though. if it works, and is comfotable, its good enough. my new motto. it'll last long enough for the Chinese to be pumping out new ones for 1/3 the price I reckon.

You are in Australia?
If you can get your hands on the card reader I can help with the software (no cost). Save you some money but if you aren't going to be using this machine forever...we don't know which machine you will end up with. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money not knowing.
Besides... that AHI of 3 for a 7 days average is still quite acceptable. Mine will vary from 0.5 to 3 on a night by night basis. It hardly ever stays close to the previous night.
