REMstar Pro C-Flex+
REMstar Pro C-Flex+
I've been unable to find much info on the REMstar Pro C-Flex+ in this board, and the machine and humidifier are not listed in the machines for user profiles. I just got mine today and I don't know how long they've been out. Does anyone have info (clinician manual, etc.) on this machine? I have the Encore Pro 2.4 software. Thanks!
Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Unless someody really pulled one over on you, then you've probably got the latest version, which is the system one: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -plus.html
If so, it's a good machine that gives full data. The downside is that the data it displays on-screen is abysmal. But there are several free options available (Onkor, SleepyHead), or you can purchase the EncoreViewer software online.

Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Does it say "Philips Respironics" on it?
If so, it's a PR System One REMstar PRO CPAP machine with C-FLEX plus in the profile listing.
Or just PRS1 PRO, as it's often called here.
The humidifier will be "PR System One Heated Humidifier."
Go to apenaboard.com and look for the clinician's manuals.
Googling Philips Respironics System One Clinicians Manual may also help.
Don't you just hate the way Respironics names and labels their machines?

Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Thanks, all! I should have added that it's a REMstar Pro C-Flex+ Auto IQ. The first time I used it (a one-hour nap yesterday), it was absolutely silent - not a peep. Last night, it sounded like someone was pushing a vacuum cleaner all night. And the humidifier LED would not go off. I checked the setup and it is set to 'Off'. My Resmed S9 Elite lasted less than 30 uses - this one didn't make it to 2 without problems. Is my snoring that bad???
Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Disconnect the mask from the hose, plug the end with your thumb. Turn on the machine.
See if you can hear and find an air leak, or at least figure out where the noise is coming from.
Do not move the machine itself while looking for the leak. You could spill water from the humidifier into the machine and damage it.
If you ever need to move the machine, remove the water tank or empty it out. Be sure you can't accidentally move the machine while in your sleep, either.

Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
I would talk to the DME if the noise continues and have them check out the machine. You may just have bad luck with machines.
Good luck, let us know what the problem turns out to be.

The Auto IQ is brand new. I don't know if the usual source for clinician manuals will have one yet.
You could email and ask. Be sure to state PR System One Remstar Pro CFlex with Auto IQ as the PR System One part of it is important even though it may not show on the machine.
This site has a large resource for clinician manuals. I don't know if they have the newest Auto IQ though. It is not listed.

Your snoring is NOT what's tearing up the machines.fotoguy wrote:Thanks, all! I should have added that it's a REMstar Pro C-Flex+ Auto IQ. Have you any pets or small children in the house? Because a cat's claws are certainly capable of making pinhole sized holes in the hose that are enough to cause problems. Children are curious and can poke at things too. And if you are leaving water in the humidifier, then either a dog or kid or yourself jostling or moving the machine around could indeed get water into the blower unit.
Are you pulling the machine off its table in your sleep? That too could damage it---particularly if water from the humidifier got into the blower unit.
And is the air filter in place? The PR System Ones are notorious for blowing the filters out.
And finally, was the mask reassembled correctly? A missing piece or a piece inserted backwards or clicked fully into its proper place could also lead to major noise issues and perhaps lead to the machine not being able to determine that your nose really was attached at the other end of the hose.
My advice: See if the unit can be returned under warranty. (It could simply be a bad unit.) And when you have a new machine, take some time to make sure of the following:
1) Daytime storage. Dump the water each morning out of the humidifier and securely place the machine AND the hose and mask where kids and pets cannot get at them.
2) Nighttime placement. Make sure you can't accidentally move the machine in your sleep. Putting the machine on the floor might help. Or use a hose management system: Many of them anchor the hose at a point away from the machine. That way, when you yank on the hose, it does not actually pull on the machine at all. And if pets/children have access to your bedroom at night, make sure the machine is protected from them as well.

Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Thanks all for your replies. It's people like you who make this such a great forum. I called the DME and left a message asking to replace it with a ResMed S9 Autoset. I would certainly prefer the S9 (if only for the quietness that the System One is lacking). I'm at the mercy of the DME. She's supposed to come here again Monday to replace the mask, anyway, so I'm going to tell her about the problems with the REMstar and hope she will change it. I'm not kidding - last night it sounded like someone was moaning while pushing a vacuum cleaner - all night long. It kept waking me up. And the humidifier LED being improperly stuck on didn't help.
I built a shelf specifically for the machine and I even have a bungie cord to hold it down. The hose comes through a hole in the bottom of the shelf, so there's no way it can move the machine. No children or pets or wife, so I know that nothing touches the machine but me. The air filter is in place and the mask is together properly. The idea to block the hose and check for leaks is a good one, and I will do that promptly.
Incidentally, my Vibratory Snore Index averages about 230.
Also, someone was kind enough to explain to me that my Encore Pro software was undoubtedly a pirated copy, so I uninstalled and deleted it. I'll wait to see what the DME says, then order either EncoreViewer or ResScan. Encore Pro was not nearly as good as ResScan, anyway (not as detailed).
Thanks again to all for your contributions to make this an awesomely informative and helpful forum!

Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Well, the woman came by today and gave me a Quattro FX mask. She said the doctor prescribed this particular machine and they don't exchange them. So what I did is drilled a hole in the wall and ran the hose through it so that the machine can be in the other room making all the noise it wants while I am in my light-proof, silent bedroom. Hopefully tonight I can get some good, quiet sleep. I would have used the auto on/auto off but then I couldn't use the ramp, which I need. So I'll have to turn the machine on and then go into the bedroom and hook up the mask. Tonight will be the first night of doing this, but I'm sure it will work out perfectly.
Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Are you getting this machine through insurance?
If so, it's probably a rental for the first few months. You probably have the right to return it.
If it's unusually noisy, it's defective. Have them exchange it.
Try turning the CFLEX setting as low as you can, or completely off. Sometimes flex makes them noisier.

Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
HAHAHA! Thanks! I just called the doctor's office and they're going to check and call me back.archangle wrote:If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check.
Can I legally sell a mask on here? I have the Quattro FX I just got yesterday and a new Mirage Quattro that came with this machine - I've been using my old Mirage Quattro. If I CAN legally sell these, I will post in the For Sale section. I'm just not sure if this is one of those things that's gonna have to sit on a shelf like my used-30-times ResMed S9 Elite. That sounds like a real waste, but I stay legal with everything as much as I can.
The doctor's secretary just called and said she talked to the DME and they're going to bring me a new ResMed S9. Yippee! The woman who brought this REMstar acted upset when I asked about an exchange, like it was coming out of her own pocket. Seems they all have a bad reputation around here.
Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+ IQ Clinician Manual?
Hi ...Did anyone find a clinician manual for the "REMstar Pro C-Flex+ Auto IQ"? I need to turn off the constantly changing inhale/exhale adjustment of air flow/pressure(?) feature completely. My technician keeps saying I will get used the machine but i have not after 4 months. I've been using CPAP for 8 yrs - no problems. The pressure adaptations keep getting out of sync with breathing and waking me up. The macine is set on lowest Level 1 (I tried 2 and 3 also). This is the second machine in 4 months with the new "convenience features." The first one had this same issue, but also made a annoying motor noise while running. I have used fixed CPAP Respironics for 8 years with no problems, but without having Auto-IQ or etc. The tech does not seem to think the continuous adjustment can be turned off to Zero. Does anyone know if it can be disabled? Or clinician manual to do so?
Thank you very much for any help!

Re: REMstar Pro C-Flex+
Apneaboard.com has that manual now.
Or simply turn the knob to setup, hold down both buttons until it beeps, then turn to setup and you're in the clinician's menu.
